away to melbourne, ten men or not, a draw is a decent effort.

and, yes, they were down a man, and yes our final pass was average, but we absolutely BOSSED the midfield in the second half. most we have done all season.

Think Ricky needs to send the squad to an optician to see if they are all color blind,as they sure seem to have problems working out which player has the same shirt on as them.

meh, i don't give a toss if we were up against 10 men or not, we were up against melbourne, and don't forget that. They may be down the adder this year, but they are still, minus, fred, the team that won last year, and unless archie thompson was the one sent off, then playing 10 of them is bloody hard

What? They are 3 points above us ffs, theyve been sh*te all year. With Muscat off, they only really had Archie, and we should be winning that. No excuses. 2 points lost, again.

Piss poor. Against 10 men for an hour. Don't remember their keeper having a save to make in the entire 90 minutes. Jacking up how good Melbourne were last season doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid, because they were there for the taking. Far as I'm concerned we never looked like winning that game and that's the worst part about it.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Erm... what? He was the one pulling the strings since we scored. He always wanted the ball, even if he meant he dropped deep. Sometimes his execution (sp?) was poor, but he had the right idea and was trying to make things happen.

Im not looking forward to next week to be honest, Spagnuolo (sp?), Burns, Djite (if fit), Cassio and Alagich are gonna rip us apart down the wings.

If you are a team who thinks they can get into the top four, this is a game you should look to win. I don't think they will be happy to have drawn this game.

Haven't seen sh*t.  Radio.  But are you lot rugby fans or something?  1 point against 29,000 Melb Kangarooters.  Come on!!!  3 wins at home.  That's what we need...

Yep and did nothing with it.Its time we stopped saying that this draw or loss was okay because it was against so and so and they have a good team. We are a good team and its time  we stepped up and started taking  the points instead of donating them  to the others.

and were u watching the same game? we make theo work, maybe not extremely, but he worked hard in that half, i remember a few distinct chances he saved, including one cross that theo blocked at full stretch, which saved a goal with a Phoenix player right behind him ready to header an open net.

I didnt think Elrich was that bad, maybe a few bad things, but he was the main point of many of the attacks.

Thats right ballane. Next season, if the same things are happening, then questions will have to be asked. You have to try and be up there for a top 4 finish. Right now, it seems as if we're settling for 7th.

Spot on. We can't start accepting mediocre performances and making excuses about how great it was to get a draw at Melbourne 'cos they were great last season. If we've got any ambition then we have to see tonight for what it was, a huge disappointment and 2 points dropped.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

that fkn game was f 'ing shyteee!! real lathargic , no go forward. Nothing happend in the box, Nothing! Too many sloppy passes, we gave away about half of our ball to the victory, and elrich has got the pace and the skill to take players on but everytime he opted to cross it!

Main point? behave yourself ffs! He was like a robot, pass to Elrich and its one touch, cross. Over and over again. Crosses were on the whole poor.

One time I thought he was gonna do something different, he ran at the defender first, I almost dropped to the floor in disbelief, I thought is he actually gonna take him on.

But no, he kicked the ball into him in what I think was an attempted cross.

Don't know why all you guys think it was such a poor performance. I thought we played darn well. Only thing that needed improvement was the final pass. And what's all this about never looked like winning? For the vast majority of the second half we were all over them like a rash and played far better than they did at all during the entire match. I would have prefered a win (obviously), but I think we played well.

And, I don't know if it has been discussed earlier in the thread or not, but who else heard the commentator mention that Felipe has been signed for next year?

Yes, but I also heard him say Elrich was causing all sorts of troubles and that Archies header was 'just wide'. Take it all with a pinch of salt.

Yep final pass yet again same as it has been all season. Its time some of you took those rose colored glasses off.Dont bother even questioning my loyalty either.

Its strange but we seem to accept the same mistakes week in week out and yet many of you still are not prepared to ask why we havnt seen some of these areas improve and dont kid yourselves the final pass and lack of shots and defence has been happening all season.

I'm sorry I'm a blight on the forum. Problem is that I'm a football supporter. I'm also, as far as I'm aware, allowed my opinion which, coincidentally, seems to be shared by several people posting on here tonight. I am a  Phoenix supporter, I have spent good money on merchandise and to travel down to Wellington to see them. I will be down in Wellington again to see them in 2 weeks time, irrespective of my disappointment in tonight's performance. I have high hopes for this club. For all of these reasons, I will not avoid criticising the team when I don't think they have performed. Sorry I'm not a "happy clapper".  Do you think Ricki Herbert will be happy with a point tonight? I know I wouldn't be if I was the Coach

I'm not knocking you for having your opinion, surely I am entitled to mine.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Conceding that goal to Sasho Petrovski against the Mariners in injury-time lost us a point.

Conceding that penalty to Ufuk Talay against Sydney FC in injury-time cost us two points.

That's the three points that could cost us a playoff berth.

For our best interests, we DON'T want Newcastle or Sydney winning tomorrow. Losses for them would be nice.

haven't  read the 16 pages of posts, so apologies if this is a repeat -  but I would say the Phoenix haven't that cringe factor at the back now; okay - Thompson was dangerous on the break, but once that was under control the Phoenix looked good for most of the game. There was a lot of domination mid-field, less hesitancy in the box but still a lack of shots on goal.
Definitely say that the Phoenix are improving as a team and as it was a team effort it was hard to pick a MOTM - Elrich on the wing? Felipe distributing from mid-field? Dodd more solid in defence? .....
I'm looking forward to the next 3 home games

ps - also looking forward to the war stories from the harassed Phoenix fans at the match

enjoyed the match! last ten minutes had me a bit nervous!

(read a few other posts. some of you are right miserable!! lighten up. enjoy the ride!!)
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Not miserable just think that its time we stopped accepting a mediocre result just because we are new in the league or supposedly the  opposition has a  good team.Would like to think Ricky is not happy that despite a good 2nd half we still couldnt put away a 10 man team. While here we were a little while ago saying gee that wasnt that bad after we lost with 10 men after elrich got sent off.

I thought our team looked quite impressive, and it's very promising for the upcoming 3 home games (+ the Galaxy game). The home support could make all the difference. Loved the starting lineup. There was a much greater confidence in Phoenix's play with less buckling under pressure.

Would have been fantastic to win, but I "accept" a draw. If by not accepting the draw, we now magically win, I would not accept the draw.

What you not are not allowed to be critical know about what was not a good performance and come on dont try and say it was.
Lets see did i enjoy the continual giving away possession no,or the way our defence continually looks like it is about to open up and survives more by good luck than planning no.Better stop guess i must have been at fridge when all our shots on goals required some outstanding saves.

Okay seems like you only want people on here who think all is good and its okay to loose or draw because hey we only started and they were better than us.

What so because i support the Phoenix i have to like every game they play, get real some of you really are sensitive suzies.

Positives - moved them all round the park in the second half, Timmo winning the battle with Muscat, not conceding in the last few mins, felipe and Daniel working well together in the second half, Lia nad Ferrante contributing well, back 3 looking more decisive these days

negatives - smeltzy having a bad night, and no real sense that we have a pair of strikers that Ricki has faith in as a unit

said to mates on friday that I'd settle for a point, we had the chances but not the finishing

Sorry - I was at the game and I thought it was pretty piss poor from our boys tonight. To let a 10 man team go up in the first place and not win against them shouldn't be acceptable imo. Was a great goal but eh.

Thompson was pretty much their only outlet and yet he still crossed the ball in under sh*t all pressure. Whoever the defender was that watched the ball be passed to Allsop and stood there like a stunned mullet should be shot.

I'm not usually one for negativity when it comes to the Nix but tonight was sh*t no two ways about it. Ricki wont be happy at all - though he seemed to be playing pretty defensive in the last 10-20 which was very dissapointing to see.

Melbourne have had 0 idea on attack thsi year and yet they still scored against us with 10 men!! Couldn't believe it.

The crowd was poor tonight as well. Melbourne supporters finally getting fed up with the TD Nazis I guess.
