7yo: I'm making a sign for the game. How do you spell phoenix? I know it starts with p-h but is it e after that?

Me: No, it's a little bit unusual. Have a guess.

7yo: i?

Me: No

7yo: o?

Me: Yes good one! What next?

7yo: Hmmm I don't know, it's weird

Me: It's actually an e after that, it is a tricky one.

7yo: So it goes p-h-o-e?

Me: Yep that's it... oh and of course nix after that bit

Result:

No she didn't take this sign, she's a bit of a perfectionist so when I informed her of the error there was no way she was being caught dead with it. She ran out of time to make a replacement as well, so we went sign-less. She was badgering me all the way there to buy her a flag, I was like maybe maybe, we got there and whaddaya know, free flags. Blimmin stoked. She's got hers hanging out her bedroom window now for the street to see.

The kids loved it. Younger ones lost interest by halftime when our food ran out, but the 7yo was well into it, and she was not happy we were so far from the YF to be able to hear all the words, aside from the obvious basic chants. She was all over the match programme, reading about the players, and I was quite chuffed with myself as I told her to watch Davila because he is really good and scores a lot, and also told her to watch Cacace as he is my favourite player. Of course they both scored and she thinks I'm some kind of oracle now, so I'm letting her run with that.

Now she wants to get back, and she wants to be in the yellow fever zone. We've earmarked Feb 15 to do just that. I think I might take her up the back of Aisle 21 so she can hear the chants loud and clear, and also watch the YF going bananas without having to turn around and miss the game.

So all in all, fairy tale performance from my perspective really. Thanks to the Phoenix for delivering, thanks to the Yellow Fever for delivering, we've now recruited another youngster to our cult.
