So now that the dust has settled.  Can anyone confirm were those 2 handballs handballs?

I thought the Brisbane one by Bowles wasn't. Ball off his thigh and hit his arm. No movement towards the ball.

I thought it was, can't go controlling the ball with your arm.

No intent to do so. No Handball

Still think his arms were up and it's not like the ball was struck at him with no time to react, it was poor judgment/technique that resulted in his arm controlling the ball.

Yup like most calls, it is judgement on the part of the ref and plenty would have called it.

Like all these things, the ref didn't call it so it didn't happen.

I invite you all to comment on the "deliberate" vs "accidental" handball here:

Interpretations of handball have changed since that incident.

Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration:

  • the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
  • the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
  • the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an

    infringement

  • touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.)

    counts as an infringement

  • hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an

    infringement
