There is a whole load of stupid in this thread started by Horsehead and topped off by Tonya. As 2nd Best said (and Ifill tweeted) cheerio. Go on. Be the 'typical NZer' you are. Its well documented on this forum that we only get decent crowds when we are winning. We are a nation of bandwagoners so go on, be a typical NZer. That's a great response too 2nd Best. You know when the mods get off the fence and stick it up your ass, you really should check yourself.
I have to take my hat off for folks that stuck around for that (or most of it) because it was a trainwreck. There was a mix of a little overconfidence, missing a couple of players, the way they played and their tactics and playing in that god awful strip. I have to agree with Ernie that you flush it away and don't analyse too much but you also don't forget the lesson. Its fair to say that we as a collective fan group expected a win so are equally guilty of overconfidence. This league produces strange results every week (the Jets have beaten Roar in all 3 games) so considering we have had 8 games of good results, we were due to come back down to earth a little and that's not too bad a thing for the home stretch. If anything, I hope it makes the team go 'we were rubbish, but we need to knuckle down and get back to the winning mode'
I can recall last year when we played the Heart and my Dad said 'That Williams is a good striker' and I choked with laughter. I personally do not rate him but he is scoring goals for them and just tonked us for a hat trick. For a player I don't rate, I would happily swap him for Brockie. At least off the ball, Williams has a work rate. The commentary about Brockie/Stein axis has been done to death but you have to ask the question of Ernie that 'Everyone else can see it, so why have you come back to it?' Does he not want to leave a player of his experience out of the team? The problem in this teams structure/pattern/setup, Brockie is the square peg to the round hole. He needs a work ethic off the ball and he needs to really work on making the dummy/phantom runs that create space for others to run into especially if you are not in form yourself. You can't just sit there on the line and expect the ball to be given to you and 'off you go, go and score son'. Ifill can do that, Brockie can't. Tyler Boyd is the better fit for the team.
Smithy's call that Manny moves back into that screening role and put Lia back into the role is the right one. He has excelled at that this season - as a ball playing midfielder. He is not a defensive midfielder, he is not an attacking midfielder. He sits in the middle of the field and is a conduit from Riera to Carlos (or whomever has the Riera role). Ridenton is a developing player so let him develop. Hicks is better suited higher up the field so lock in Manny and Lia and then build around that. You have Kenny, then Carlos, Stein and Boyd. Brockie, Ridenton and Hicks are on the bench.
I also now wonder if C-Diddy wants a job with the Internet Party. That line about waking up to Internet we can afford really struck a cord with me mate.... :o) Kim Dotcom needs to get you on board
A thoughtful post JV. Come on guys, one bad result doesn't deserve all this forum angst. Every team has off days, ask Arsenal. Just suck it up and get down to the next home game and cheer them on even more. That's what being a football fan is all about. Sometimes a spanking can be a good wake-up call and perhaps some compacency had crept in with the previous good results.
Kim Dotcom is a crass fat copyright thief who should be kicked out of the country by the way.
