R19 v Heart Sun 16th Feb 5pm #FlushItDownTheDunny

The Phoenix are on a roll, and if some recent spectacular performances aren’t reason enough to head to the stadium, main sponsor Huawei is adding an extra incentive of $10,000.

The next home game is the Phoenix vs Melbourne Heart on February 16 at Westpac Stadium. As soon as the gate ticker hits 10,000 the draw goes live and one lucky fan will be picked at random to take home the $10,000 cash.

With the Phoenix winning five of their last six matches – including a spectacular 5-0 victory in the last game at Westpac – there is no doubt the players are turning up and now their main sponsor Huawei hopes to encourage football fans to do the same.

“The team has been playing some exciting football and are just one win away from breaking into a playoff position. It would be fantastic to see a big crowd show up to get behind the Phoenix and help lift them when they play at home,” Huawei Director of Public Affairs Andrew Bowater said.

“The atmosphere at home games is already great, but with over 10,000 it will be amazing. We’re hoping this will help to push a few more people off the couch and down to the stadium with us.”

To get in the draw, all you need to do is turn up to the game. Your ticket will be scanned on entry and the moment the big screen shows attendance of 10,000 the prize goes live and someone will walk away with the $10,000.

The winning seat number will be randomly selected from the scanned tickets and announced at half-time.

Round up your mates, get to the stadium, get loud, and be in with the chance to take home $10k for 10k.

Brilliant idea for a promotion. Well done Huawei.

In other news, random Nix fan robbed leaving stadium by former DJ of the popular hip hop act Public Enemy.

If this works and we get 10k we should just do it every week. Get cracking Wahway.

Didn't we have a similar promo with Gareth giving away some cash? Hopefully it does draw in some extra punters.

Man I hope it works and we get at least 10k good on Wahway for stepping up and trying something.

I'm positive things will go wrong.

Why not? Only has to pull in 400 extra punters to pay for itself.

"most friendly in the league"?

This is why no one fears coming here anymore.

We should make a concerted effort to be the most passive-aggressive in the league.

Awesome idea from a great sponsor. BUT should give away a dollar for every fan that turns up... 20k fans = $20k, sold out = $34,500.

I'm very proud that we're The Friendliest Fans in the A-League. I suppose it's because there is much honour due to ppponent fans who come all the way here, esp. from Perth. The sing-off at the Faltering Fullback vs the Red Army was lulzy.

BTW, that's probably why NQF (the "propa nawty hooligans" who gave short shrift to  opposition fans turning up to "their pub" with "opposing colours") folded.

Of course we're friendly. We appreciate having our own professional football team. It gives us a way to let out a weeks worth of frustration at work by singing out hearts out. Welcome to New Zealand anyway to any visiting Australian football fans.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Agreed.

These hardy souls who made the trip from Perth to ChCh for the Nix game against the Glory especially deserve a medal.

Bloody longest fan trip for an away regular club game in the world. At least now we have direct flights.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

In Russian Tier 2 (National League), there is a team from Vladivostok & another from Kalingrad (7372Kms), an additional 2000kms on Wellington Perth, luckily for Vladivostok, in 2013/14 there is also a team from Khabarovsk, though the vast majority of teams are over 5000kms away in Western Russia.

Not sure any fans would make that away trip though. ;-)

But yeah good on the Perth fans for making the trip.

Yes because PAX is all tickets sold or given away (Including season tickets), so PAX will generally always be higher than crowd figure.

Where else is this promotion being advertised to get the casual punter along? I've only seen it on here and the Phoenix facebook page.

I don't mind them waiting until next week to start advertising it, I'm sure they'll be including it in all the regular Dom Post ads.

I know the distances involved and that sounds pretty insane.... I can't believe they do not have regional conference / division games?

On the other hand, they fly subsidised on Aeroflot.... but still even the time zone difference alone, that is just mind-blowing.

They are regionalised below that level, so third tier (Russian second Div) has about 6 regional divisions, but the top two levels are national competitions. Are a couple of teams competing for promotion that are even further east than Vladivostok, so could get interesting, is talk of a conferenced type set-up, but nothing at official levels.

So.... playing in HAL is just for pussies. We should apply to join Asia and just go straight to compete in the Japanese league, or the Korean one, or both. That would really sort the wheat from the chaff and make us the "hard to beat" team.

I don't think we would be allowed to join both leagues.  Have you thought this through fully?
