My only surprise was that it took so long for this day to come. Whether Herbert was asked to resign or he took it upon himself is a moot point so I won't be going there.

The way the Phoenix have been lately, he would have been gone a lot earlier if it was any other league in the World. For Herbert to stay till the end of the season would have been good for absolutely no-one involved with the club.

I suppose a big question will be if the change of playing style hadn't occurred how would be the Nix be fairing. I always got the feeling Herbert had taken the team as far as he could and couldn't get them to push through to the next level due to his coaching aesthetic.

I wish Herbert well in his future endeavors.

I'm surprised he left in the middle of a very important week in the season. By the end of the Dunedin game we could be right in it or completely out of the playoff race. Seems like odd timing in that regard. Maybe they're hoping for a bit of interim coach magic that'll see us go on a winning run.

We're assuming he wasn't asked to resign. How many truly believe after making it clear in a recent interview that it's not in his nature to quit that he fell on his own sword today? He has bought the club good times and not so good, so this, in my humble opinion, was the perfect way for him, the owners and the club to part company.
