There was also a billboard outside Mt Smart Stadium with the same message, featuring the Phoenix’s logo being projected from Auckland’s Sky Tower.
Four Auckland players have played for the Phoenix previously, with All Whites goalkeeper Alex Paulsen, who starred for Wellington last season, the most notable.
Callan Elliot, Logan Rogerson and Luis Toomey are the other Auckland players who have previously pulled on a Phoenix jersey.
