It happens.
This is a more unique situation; it’s not like someone who supported ManU under the Ferguson era switching to ManCity because they’re the ones buying the league and ManU are …manure.
It’s more like, you used travel across town because there was only one Bunnings around, now a new one has opened up round the corner, so you’re going to use that one now.
Doesn’t mean you need to go hating on WPX though.

I'm not criticizing people who choose to support both teams. I'm more talking about those that go all "LOL sMaLL tEaM eNeRgY lOoK aT yEr CrOwD nUmBeRs We OwN tHe NiX LMAO" while still picking out yellow lint from their belly buttons.
I certainly don't have the time or money to head down to Welly every couple of weeks as much as I'd like to and so I did initially consider getting an AFC membership because of the proximity. Ultimately decided that I wouldn't commit to attending every home game for a team that is not "my" team so it wasn't worth it for me. I totally get that other people's attitudes and circumstances might be different and I'm cool with that.
I'm just not cool with the unnecessary Nix bashing. That's like your favourite band being from overseas - you can't attend their gigs but still love them. Then a local band pops up and you start seeing them every weekend cause they're there and all of a sudden the original band is shark and you're throwing out all their records?
Don't know. Maybe I'm being too tribalistic about a bunch of dudes kicking a ball around or maybe I'm in a foul mood cause I'm back in the office after a long weekend.
This may be the most sense I've ever seen spoken on these forums. Kudos.
For me, football is a brilliant mix of both connection and tribalism. In my own circumstance I have previously lived in Auckland for far longer than I've ever resided in Wellington, but the difference for me ultimately was the connection, and that in turn breeds that tribalistic nature. For that reason I'll be in the cold, cold ground before I relinquish the 🟡⚫
In general though I have no concerns with people jumping ship. Given the unique circumstance with the emergence of this second NZ side it was always going to test where loyalties will lie.
What I would say to counter that previous paragraph though is if you have switched and are fairly ironed on in terms of your allegiances, then don't be jumping colours because either 🟡 or 🔵 is suddenly the flavour of the month. Nothing worse than a bandwagoner.
**Edit**
Sorry, forgot to add on, but good on Auckland as well for the engagement and establishing the hype and seeing the families and young kids in the stands. That's arguably been the biggest failure as a result of their 17 year hiatus - No one for these young ones to look up to on the football pitch week in, week out.
Sure, some might have gravitated towards the Nix in that time, but you can bet your bottom dollar that a lot more would have dropped off or even moved away from the game altogether or even worse, become Euro-snobs...
