Should the Phoenix sign Roddy Brown?

As we know Roddy Brown has been training with the Phoenix and by all accounts he's doing great. So what do you guys think, should we sign him as an U20 player? He is currentely in the NZU20 team and spent two seasons away in Chile. Before that he played first team for Miramar (standout performer in  the chatham cup final), plays midfield and striker. Top player in my opinion.

Played against him and yes he is a very good player. A few years ago I was at at Capital Soccer Camp with him and he was told he would struggle to be a good player due to his size, very funny to look back on that comment now.

I played against him last Friday nite and on top of being a good player (don't know why hes not in the 1st team @ Wests) hes a good lad - im not sure if he would be up to the Phoenix just yet but if anyone could be thrown in the deep end, he'd have the confidence to do it. 

Surely if he can't make the 1st team at Wests, then he cannot be considered good enough to play in the A-League, no matter how nice a guy he is

Hes definetly good enough for the 1st team - I think with the U20 lads they are making sure they are managing there playing and training time so don't think that playing in the seconds means hes not good enough. As for the Nix, well not sure on that count but would be interesting to see how he comes through the World cup....maybe a bit more time...its going to be a tough call by Ricki, cos there are some good U20s both here and overseas....

i know 4 a fact that roody brown is gd enough.. we both have grown up 2gthr since lil kids and he has always been a class player! always been in the same teams at junior level until we both went off and played club football at senior level.. anyhw.. the reason for roddy brown not playing in the first team at the moment is because he has been recovering from a injury he received at team wellington training earlier on in the year! and im pretty sure that the reason for him playing second team is because his game back for the first team or woteva he got sent off and i think this is why he played 2nd team last friday night as has to earn his spot again! Not sure hes up to the A-League he has never played an NZFC game let alone A-League. I think they will wait and see how he goes with the Under 20s at the World Cup. Games I watched in Qualifying in Auckland he has very limited playing time but yes he has a very nice touch and control but looks like he is quite slow and would not have the speed to play an attacking role. Just my 2 cents

I think our next signings have to be top quality, so I would pass on him.
