Disney doesn't need the A-League to promote the biggest film of the year.

They don't need the NBA to promote it either yet NBA teams are having Star Wars nights. Disney will be paying for this as part of their marketing budget for the film. We might think its stupid but we are not the target market, just like most of the promotion stuff the FFA do.

Basketball is a novelty sport though so it makes sense to have themed nights for it. Football not so much.
