New Zealand Herald ftw.

This.

I would also like to add that Stuff regularly troll these forums, especially anything with 'Terry' in the title, so i think some of you (especially the more regular user's of YF) need to assess what youre typing, keep it clean, keep it logical and remove the hate... because Stuff are lapping it up and posting it all on their website for the entire nation to read.

IMO anyone slagging off Terry, or the Nix on this forum needs to grow up or gtfo.

edit: too bad The Herald only have Soccer news...

What?  God forbid that anybody should come onto a Phoenix website and say anything negative or voice their concerns. I mean it's not like it happens on any other club websites around the world, is it? Any truth in the rumour that cheerleader outfits are being provided for us?

This is not condoning in any way the hatchet job that the Dom Post is doing, by the way.

Jag I think the point is that this is a "supporter" forum.

There is a difference between being a worried fan and slagging Terry off.

Nobody is saying you can't say what you think - but if you're not a Phoenix fan (and a Terry fan by extension) then what are you doing here in the first place?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Point taken, Smithy. When I read the post I quoted, it struck me as a "anyone who doesn't post nice things about us should f**k off.." type happy-clappy post. On reading it again, I can see what you mean, so if my initial reaction was wrong, I'm happy to apologise to the poster.

It may all be bs that the Dom Post keeps printing but it's not a good look for the club. I think Terry deserves some kind of award for everything he's done for football in this country, and should have the media building him up instead of tearing him down. I really feel sorry for the guy since this was meant to be the season that he was going to get back some of the money that he had lost, but at the moment we're only getting small crowds and bad publicity.

I think you only need to compare the front pages of the New Zealand Herald and the DominionPost today to conclude that there is an anti-Terry agenda at the DomPost.

They have disliked him ever since The Apprentice (and I can understand why in some ways).

But KiwiChick is right - what he has done for football and Wellington deserves praise, not to have Phil Kitchen sifting through his rubbish.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I like how this thread was all but 2 pages long and Stuff decided to have their leading story imply that the fans are worried when in fact it was maybe half that and the rest is all the sack Ricki style jokes.

Top notch work done by the Dominion Post/Fairfax once again.

Plus, almost a whole front page? Editor clearly thinks that this is far more important than all the nonsense going on in government/parliament with the hundreds and thousands of dollars of 'perks', or the fact that TWELVE people died on our roads last weekend - or even that Mana, which as far as I was concerned was with the Dom Post Realm - is having themselves a little by election...this drivel takes presidence. Mind you, with the amount of coverage the Dom Post gave to the Local election, why am I not surprised? (and their favourite little mayor lost the race - tut tut).

I stopped reading Dom Post and removed Stuff from my favourites bar thing during the last ACC beat-up until today when colleagues notified me of what was going on.

Frankly, I couldn't give a toss about Terry's business. But it does smell like someone has pissed off an editor at Dom Post now. Quite petty. I'm sure that there are cases like this going on all the time in the upper realms of business and I am sure that they are resolved like adults, not dragged through the mud via the front page thanks to what appears to be an 'investigative journalist' with an apprentice sized chip on his shoulder.

This may change Terry's involvement with the nix, it may not. I hope that it is the latter, but I am sure that there are contingencies in place if Terry decides that he can't commit as much as he would like to the nix.

Although if it does actually start to go pear shaped and Terry decides to step back, and some sort of (hypothetical) rate payers bail out occurs...well I'm just imagining Phil Kitchin's outraged report if something like that should occur.

Also, because I know that you are reading this, I would very much like NOT to be quoted in your little news bulletin website thanks Fairfax. Just know that I have not been a customer of yours for a few months now, and that will continue until you start doing some actual reporting - other than saying that you believe that nix supporters are conversing on this website, as we have always done for the last 3 or so years.

Relax. I saw Terry this morning. He was smiling and whistling a happy tune as he walked along. He was also carrying a very big cheque and he told me he was popping along to the IRD Office to give the cheque to them.

If the company holding the A League licence is liquidated then the licence reverts to FFA (or it may be NZF in the Phoenix's case - I'm not certain).  The IRD could not "put the club up for sale" as you say.

So the IRD in fact has very little to gain from liquidating Century City Football Limited.

We're in for a month of uncertainty, but there is no danger of the club disappearing this season.  The FFA could not let that happen as it would damage the credibility of the competition.

Either Terry will keep running the Phoenix, or someone else will.  That someone else may well be the FFA - and there is plenty of precedent for this in the league already.

It's not in the FFA's interests for Terry to be gone however - unless he is financially mismanaging the club (which hasn't been suggested).

So my pick is that one way or another Century City Football Limited will stave off liquidation and carry on.  It's in more peoples' interests for that to happen (including the IRD's, the FFA's, the other clubs', the players', and Terry's).

It is a somewhat grey area whether  the IRD could "put the club up for sale". Their problem is with Century City Football Ltd. The IRD can liquidate CCF and try and recover whatever assets that might be saleable. I would assume that this could include the brand "Phoenix". It depends how you define "the club". But anything owned by CCF Ltd would be put up for sale by the IRD, including the brand name.

The only way CCF can stave off liquidation is to pay the money owed....either from Terry's assets  or introducing a new investor who pays offf the IRD in exchange for part ownership.

As for the IRD having "little to gain" from liquidating CCF, that is irrelevant. The IRD is not a charity...they will vigourously persue the recovery of any money owed....in fact there is probably already heavy late payment penalties due. They will liquidate!!!!!

You are right the licence is not a saleable item. I would revert back to NZF or the FFA who would then decide on the next course of action....most probably finding another operator. This has occured quite often in the A-League.....too often for the FFA.

If CCF is liquidated and the licence goes back to FFA/NZF then "Phoenix" as we know it ceases to exist. The brand is owned by CCF, the player/staff contracts are held with CCF. Everything is up for grabs. This does not mean the label "phoenix " is finished.....it just means that the future is very complicated.

Buffy, Terry told me he was lying low in Pukekohe to get away from the crazed Dominion Post "reporters" following him around everywhere. When told he was in the area, a reporter from the Franklin County news was quoted as saying "Terry who?"

My bet is still that Terry is on borrowed time and the IRD are not to be trifled with. Should he be dispatched to history as the saviour of NZ football who lost his club, so be it. I will forever remain thankful for his contribution, and shout him a beer if I were ever to run across him and say thanks.

It's interesting that at no point does this  investigative team from the Dominion Post even try to offer any reason on why this situation has arisen. I would have thought their business journalists would have the ability to offer some clarity or explanation.  The again, that may be expecting too much.
