Mmm i think it's ok to knock the signings. Its showing an opinion,
it's not saying that i wont be at every phoenix game possible and
aren't a supporter of the club. It's just a few people voicing
their opinion on whats happening so far!
........I agree that past performances don't necessarily indicate future performance, but you get a pretty good idea of a players ability from them, after all if a player is 28 and average, he's likely to stay that way, an average player doesn't suddenly become a superstar just because they join a new team, though I accept they can improve under certain conditions.
As far as Ricki is concerned and the 'structure' you mention Teza, I'm postive that Ricki has an ideal but I would guess his structure will come from who he manages to sign rather than making signings to fit a masterplan.
As with all forums the stronger words we use to discuss certain
topics the more lively the debate. If we state bland facts as
Teza states then there will be no discussion or opinion needed,
just a variety of affirmations - how incredibly
dull!......................

Im sure Ricki has a structure around how he wants the team to
play and his signings are based on that, how people are
knocking the team and individual players already when they
don't know what that structure is or how those players fit in
doesn't make sense to me. Riki and his staff are a lot more
qualified than any of us so lets wait until they at least start
playing before the bitching and moaning starts.
A bit of positivity guys.

I agree with you to a point, but the main reason for something
like this is to allow people to voice their opinions. If I
think that such and such, or so and so, or even such and so are bad
signings, then this is the place to discuss that.
Imagine how sycophantic this site would be if we could all
only say nice things.

Nothing wrong with opinions based on fact but as I said we
don't know the system that will be played or how the players will
fit into it so we can't tell how any of the players will perform.
Past performance isn't neccesaraly an indicator of future
performance so I think we need to take that into consideration when
knocking the players.
By all means if the players dont perform on the pitch then lay
into them but the constant sniping at some players before they've
even kicked a ball in anger is a bit premature.
good point tez
evaluation is one thing, but when evaluation crosses the line
to unbridled criticism, it holds little sway with me.
i would say however, that most phoenix fans are quite happy
with where we are right now in regards to the players that have
signed.
At the same time we have seen many of these players play before for
different clubs and in different leagues, so many of us probably
think we're qualified to give an opinion. Plus there's sweet
f.a to talk about in the off season without any games to watch...if
only the bloody season would start we'd have something concrete to
talk aboutjames dean2007-06-05 21:09:51
its good to have a place like this where we can voice our opinions
on who we have, who we want and what we wanna see. over critisism
is bad though
the season will rush up on us and i cannot wait. bring on the QE II game.

Theres a difference between 'knocking' and being realistic.

I feel that on the whole I am fairly balanced in my praise or criticism of individual players (who doesn't?), but if the Phoenix sign a player who I don't rate then I can't change my opinion overnight, even more so if that player was a former member of a rival team.
I agree that past performances don't necessarily indicate future performance, but you get a pretty good idea of a players ability from them, after all if a player is 28 and average, he's likely to stay that way, an average player doesn't suddenly become a superstar just because they join a new team, though I accept they can improve under certain conditions.

I don't think I said that we should state bland
facts (although it may have read that way),just that there is no
need to start sniping at particular players already i.e. 'why did
we sign xxx he's sh*t',
wouldnt it be better to
say ' I can't see where he will fit in because of x and
x etc. Most people as you said are reasonable in their criticism
but a few just knock for the sake of knocking.
Interesting point re a players ability but physiologically most people can always improve. There are not many of us that have reached our true potential (im starting to sound like a lifestyle guru ). Playing in a different team with better players, a different training regime etc. can make an average player good and a good player great.
Im reasonably sure (at least I hope
so) that as a professional coach
Riki won't just buy players because they are there, I would think
that he is buying players that could fit into the general structure
that he wants for the team.
I post my opinion. If my opinion of that player is that he's sh*t,
then thats what I'll post. If I think hes great then I'll say so.
No point in being positive as you're cheating yourself and others.
Now now, lets be nice about this
Yes but some of what has been coming up from some recently is
pretty much 'i have no idea who half the team is i've never seen
any of them play or even seen them full stop, don't know this ricky
herbert guy, but it my opinion the team is s^&*and we are gonna
get f*^*#@ like the knights'. It not exactly well reasoned
thought provoking debate, and as i said before it should be the
talk of the cove or the squadron not the yellow fever.
Here is a similarly well reasoned arguement 'Nembo your a s%^#
poster' it is complete rubbish and completely not ture and
without basis. But if i did say that i would expect to be
told where to go. Which is what's happening here we are
saying if your entire arguement is 'he's sh*t' just leave it out
come back when you know something about it.
That got very long winded so you have probably stopped reading
by now, anyway that's just my opinion hehe

Yeah I can agree with that. I will generally post a reason, and
even if I dont Ill come back to it and post a reason later
