Penalties have started badly with Smeltz getting saved. We look f**ked. O well.

Smeltz sounds like he couldn't hit a barn door if it was 1m in front of him tonight!

I guess thats why he only scored two in the conference last season, hopefully George turns out all right, otherwise Daniels awesome service will go to waste.

I think that's a bit harsh - he's been scoring well up until now. Just one of those days for him I think.

At least he was in the right place at the right time...hit one and you win the match.

It happens to strikers, sometimes for 5-6 matches (lots of chances...no goals) but for smeltz he's been on fire lately and scoring from every opportunity.

He will be good for the Nix, and remember has 2 weeks to fine tune the strikes. Rather that happen tonite and not in 2 weeks.

ok there was one moment of briliance in the YF zone today, 85' ish there was a little crap and i swear ALL YF CHANTED in perfect time!!!! at least 750 of us!!!!!!

"SAME OLD AUSSIES ALWAYS CHEATING!!!!!!!!!!!" this chant echoed of the other end of the stadium it was f**king amazing, imagine what we can achieve with some leadership!!!!!!

i hope to god that someone has film of this chant, some people were filming in the YF zone

anyway the game was just fustraiting, i was kicking in the stand because the nix werent kicking on the feild, we lacked in our finishing, but who cares its preseason the moment of the night belongs to this chant

Griffiths is a cheating diving detestable oik, I dearly hope that Muscat or our Ross f**k him up badly at some point this season.

I agree with you Valao... remember strikers can't score if they dont get the ball... read the knights or his conference team (also read AWs). Anyway I wasn't sure if signing him was a good idea but I think Ricki has done well here with Smeltzy.

Three goals in preseason, that looks promising to me

2 great moments:

1) Griffiths went down in our corner and everyone ripped in him for dropping like a fly, when he got up he did a hand gensture of "brushing off the abuse" and that got everyone hurling louder abuse at him, lol.

2) There was a chick taking pictures of us at the front and she was wearing a skirt, at one point the wind lifted it up slightly as she was kneeling, with which we applied "We just saw it!" and she looked incredibly embarrassed. GD TIMES!

Phoenix defence seemed weak. The game got better, but I didn't think their team gave Phoenix as many chances.

I would think that a big picture saying "YELLOW FEVER GAME CAST" with stars and logos would be easy to find, no? It's also the first thing that your eyes see when you open up yellowfever..

1st half all over them, lots of space and time, final ball a bit slow sometimes, Daniel whipped one great cross in

2nd half they played with more width, and we left a few gaps as we went for it,

last ten mins lots of crap balls from both sides, pretty awkward conditions

shame we hit the bar

- Agree same old aussies chant was our most united and something about the in that one words really makes it easy to sing loud and in time

maybe shorter, simpler, less musical chants are easier to get volume on

a few laughs alright, but glad it wasn't a league game

i agree with tigers, we were all over them the first half
2nd half also had some good scoring oputunities, we really schouldve scored. the fever zone was good fun, same old aussie chant sounded amazing around middle of the 2nd half when a phoenix player ended up with a yellow card.
must say i was disspaointed that while it was advertised that students had free entry that was actually only for secondary school students.
i guess $10 is pretty cheap though, but still i as amping for a free game of footy!!

we bossed them. very impressed. Felipe, Daniel and Smeltz especially. Everyone was good. Add Lochead to that. Was always gonna be hard to score in that wind.

The Same Old Aussies chant was classic - could hear it easily from the Press Box.

Some notes from tonight:

1. I went to the after-match press conference and shot some video which I will edit over the weekend.

2. Felipe isn't badly injured, just a bad case of cramp

3. TV3 will have highlights and a wrap on tomorrow night's news

4. Both Newcastle and Ross Aloisi mentioned the noise from the Fever Zone

A bit premature me thinks, especially given this respect:

"Newcastle coach Gary Van Egmond was also full of praise for the Hyundai A-League new boys, singling out Smeltz and Daniel as two players that had impressed him"

I wasnt there but he obviously had a great game in the conditions.

Did anyone else get annoyed with the 'loudspeaker guy' always adding the FC onto our name? Surely it would have been easier and sounded better if he just called them the Phoenix or Wellington Phoenix.

The game was great, although some of the passing from the midfield was poor passing it straight to them, but to be fair they did it a bit more than we did. Yellow Fever crowd was amazing again, with a few great chants. Shame to have lost in penalties but I guess that it is better to lose in the lottery that is penalties then to lose during normal time.

Yeah that'd be a point during the season which we'd be happy with I'm sure. If Preseason were league games we'd have 7 points from 5 games - not a bad return.

Hmm, I can't find a write up in the Herald this morning.

However, there is a poll saying which game/sport are you most excited about

Warriors league is first 53% "Soccer-English League" is second with 21%, Auckland v Waikato Rugby Union is third 19%, golf 6%. I'd just like to say that again, RUGBY UNION IS THIRD.

I want to give a rap to a player that has impressed me - Royce Brownlie. I like his committment and style. I thought he played well against Sydney, and again last night. He has good first time control which is important at this level.Orpewise2007-08-11 13:15:20
