Transfer Talk - 2018/19 Season
Gulley, TAHW (though he got injured again), some rumours about Dan Morgan who I know 0 about
Never thought much about Morgan personally. Not surprised by Nichols being let go.. He has been pants. I was hopeful we'd see some glimmers of his class but alas that wasn't to be.
Hope we have someone lined up to replace him who can push Mandi and Rufer for a starting spot..
No-one knew about the Sheriff so let’s hope there’s a secret announcement ready to go
The Stuff article says that Way is technically being kept until the end of the month to ensure we have the minimum squad number - that says to me that they don't have someone immediately lined up, or they are on a delay of some sort
FYI, latest on Giuseppe Rossi, training with ManU (and impressing fergie apparently);

Not expected to sign with ManU, only a fitness thing, but suggests to me that it would've been quite the coup for the A-League.
Decent player, thoroughly disliked amongst Fever elite - so may be a perfect Nichols replacement.
We have history...
Should have been signed years ago.
It's Aaron Clapham time
LOL
Morgan wouldn't provide CM backup, but would be a great replacement for Way if we're looking for Kiwis. Really rate him but would prefer TAWH first obviously. What's the beef between Dan and the Fever?
Other Kiwis I'm keen on would be Seth Clark or McCowatt for attacking cover if Burns dips at the end of the season, and Tavano for versatile cover all around the midfield (if he actually has a passport)
Stretching it to say its streets ahead of other squads when it comes to Kiwi players.Maybe potential wise it is
Singh, Cacacae, Rufer (current version) =>>>>>> Brown, Lochhead, Ridenton (any version)
Rufer <<< Brown - no doubt about that. This being said, they're quite different players, but Brown's ability to break up play and move the ball up the pitch quickly and his bombing runs into the opposition box are still unrivaled at this club. And I do like Rufer, he's just not as good.
Brown was not a good football player
totally disagree. I'm just saying that Rufer/Singh are better than he was.
Coveny, Smeltz, Brown, Lochead, Paston, Moss, would beat Rufer, Singh, Doyle and Fenton. I guess I could figure out other kiwis played with Marco and Kosta with a quick google
What was the point in signing Way? Would he rate as the worst Aussie we've had on our books? I know we've had a lot of state League garbage before.
Morgan is left footed so if we want cover for Fenton I'm not sure he is it. And he's not exactly on the young side for a footballer.

Possibly, although perhaps quite an unfair assessment based on 10 minutes off the bench...and if it wasn't for Lowry getting sent off against Perth, he might never have even got the playing time that he managed. Guessing it could've been a bit of a squad filling role before the season kicked off. Now that the dust has settled and Rudan's had time to work with the players and systems/tactics etc he probably just doesn't cut the mustard in terms of what we're after, and hopefully we've got someone lined up who will offer us a bit/lot more value.
There are a few contenders for the worst aussie title though - Caira, Brindell-South, Tsattalios, Pavlovic, Danaskos, Appiah and more recently Litfin and Parkhouse.
I don't expect Cacace/Fenton to play every game, for different reasons. I'd like to see Ryan Lowry at left wingback (he could play right wingback too or in the back 3).
Post season, Matt Millar at right wingback would be an exciting signing, but there will be competition for his signature.
I didn't know Ryan Lowry had a left foot, are you not thinking of his brother Shane?
I have a memory (admittedly dodgy) of seeing Ryan play both fullback positions. Possibly FFA Cup, pre season or even weenix game? Anyway, someone is claiming he can, according to this... (it would be good to know, as I would much prefer him than Doyle)

He was a proven good A-League player though, just really unlucky.
So the Essian rumours are floating around again ...
The Phoenix have five imports though ... so that isn't happening

Crowther.
Not saying I want him, just saying there are ways to get him if Rudan wanted.

Excuse my ignorance, but care to elaborate?

Dan Morgan's a LB/LW for ACFC so not really a Butters replacement. Good player, fast, makes intelligent plays, likes to get forward. He'd be a good addition to the squad although whether he can make the step up to A-League level - we'd have to find out. We've also got Cacace & Doyle in his positions and he's very Left Footed - so unlikely to cover Fenton.

Way was pretty good for the WeeNix. I'd assume his injury is bad enough that they need to replace him anyway so freeing up the squad space is good idea.
Excuse me for my optimism, but would Tim Payne be a good shout? Or Howieson?

Yipe Rudan didn't have a full pre season to recruit, so Way would have been a bit of a rushed selection pre season start.
Still just goes to show that there will always be a few 'duds' with recruitment. When a coach who knows the Aussie NPL scene well like Rudan, gets it wrong - shows how hit & miss it can be.
For every Matt Millar, there will be a few Rueben Ways. Which is yes a bit harsh on Way, if he is being released mainly due to injury.

Never say never.
Declan Edge is congratulating the Nix on twitter.
Winds of good change perhaps in the NZ football environment.

Too good to trial.
Essien would be a really poor signing - hasn't played for a long time, last club was in Indonesia etc. - seems like it'd just be disruptive.
"Australian Side" has me triggered. Also this is Ghana's top team's logo
That Tratt kid looks pretty handy...

Is there a source for this? Or nah?
It was covered in detail at the time.

While I agree that he may not be the best player for the team results wise, would be fantastic publicity off the field and it is probably a metrics signing.
