so won’t sign de Jong but signs this guy.

He obviously has his reasons, he's seen enough of both of them to make the deicison. If De Jong was obviously better, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be signed.
Do they even play the same positions?
And he had two looks at de Jong apparently. His team, his choice- perfectly happy with that
