Given all new signings from this point will be for next season I figured we need a fresh thread

I'm hoping that whoever the new manager is will play hardball with contract negotiations and really open up cap space. There are some good players on our off-contract list, but not good enough to earn drawcard salaries of a few years ago.

Corey Gameiro's off contract too.

No to Gameiro, unless he signs a contract based on appearences... too injured!

I hate to say it but he HAL players off-contract (and not wanted by other clubs?) might be able to beat us. Have always thought Nick Fitzgerald was one of the most under-rated players in the competition. Always seems to do well wherever he goes. But apparently Sydney FC are keen on him.

Isn't Bruce Kamau off contract as well? He would be an upgrade on Parkhouse and arguably Patterson.

is Patterson pants or have we just not seen enough of him? I know he has had injuries and illness since arriving...

Why not go for broke, given that it's the last two seasons of the license - bring back Jason Hicks, get Brock Messenger and Andre De Jong in, sign up Te Atawhai Hudson-Wihongi, Tim Payne and maybe Howieson. Then go and get some of their team-mates from the NSWNPL (Bring back Tratty!) to stop the Aussie's whinging.

That would leave 4 visa spots open still, and find players that improve the squad - rather than ones that just provide competition without increasing the ability or collective spirit of the team.

Which ones can be considered left-footed fullbacks?

This as an option if we really wanted Doyle to play CB next season.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Clisby and Garuccio. Garuccio a similar level of player to Doyle IMO but he also has age on his side (only 23), Clisby is a little worse but i certainly wouldn’t be sad if he came.

Another one not listed is Corey Brown, he’d be a solid choice but probably too good for us

Nah but he’s definitely good enough with his left

given how much A-League teams rely on wide players, I find it odd how many solid fullbacks are off contract. I understand Clisby given he's not first choice currently (still alright though), but Franjic, Elrich, Garuccio are all decent as far as A-League fullbacks go. I'd love us to sign any of those really, and shift Doyley into CB

Can play either side but he is heavily linked to a WSW return.

Corey Brown is rumoured to be off to the Victory.

Franjic and Elrich quite old now and often injured, Garrucio is average.

Out of that list, I rate Theoharous, Valeri (would be just as good as Paracki) and Bujis.

Get Jamie Young. Outstanding keeper with a load of experience at a higher level. While I like Velaphi he's nowhere near the same class as Young

Rumour is that he will retire at the end of the season. He hasn't been quite the same since that time off last season with the brain inflammation.

What's wrong with Cacace? I wish we had a right footed Cacace coming through the WeeNix because I think RB is more of an issue than LB

Cacace would work, I quite like him at DM as well if we are expecting Goran to go,.

Queenslander 3x a year.

I'd rotate and select from galloway, gulley*, fox, durante, new import*, doyle, cacace

In that mix there's cover for both full back positions, with doyle, cacace and gulley options to play left back, and fox an option to cover right back for galloway or gulley.

The strength of the import would be the key to our success

Pretty sure Gulley can right back as well.  Depending on what money he's on (and I suspect it's a fair wedge) I wouldn't be keeping Galloway.  I'd also be surprised if Dura is still an option.

Considering it's all conjecture anyway then Tratt as well.

From what I can figure this is our contracted player list for next season:

Ryan Lowry
Dylan Fox
Nathan Burns
Adam Parkhouse
Sarpreet Singh
Tom Doyle
Oliver Sail
Roy Krishna
Keegan Smith (Youth)
Tando Velaphi

Some holes there.

U bet, my assumption was the people knew Gulley was primarily a right back. Depending on $$$ and contract I wouldn't keep Galloway either, I just assumed he had another year, but I see he hasn't

Given the club's recruitment record of late, I really do think the club would be best advised to fill those empty squad places according to Yellow Fever forum discussion

Chance my contract ends 17/18 list was done before Tando signed.

Also if he is I'm hearing rumours we have seen the last of him.  Talk in Auckland on Sunday is that he has the bork (as in VELAPHI, Tando Injured - season).

If Velapi's injured, should we bring back Smith for the rest of the season? He's contracted for next year and it would be interesting to see how well he handles the pressure after a few months out of the spotlight.

I'm going to throw a real random and suggest they start Oli Sail.  He's been MOTM in recent games for the WeeNix.  We know what Smith offers maybe we try the big man.

Lowry, why? Parkhouse, why? Velaphi, why?

I would rather use a VISA spot on a 'keeper than have Velaphi, ok stop gap, but not a permanent solution at all. Actually, if we can't get anyone better than Velaphi who is a NZer/Aussie then we definitely should get a VISA 'keeper.

Velaphi's a good keeper. You can probably see the difference between him and our other keepers. But yes, we definitely have better kiwi keepers, or keepers just as good. Of course there's a chance that Smith and Sail could be better than him given more time too.

I don't think that's random at all. He's a decent keeper and has a good head on him.

has any other A-League team ever started 4 keepers in one season?

CCM may have a couple of seasons back. I do know they were down to their 4th choice keeper, but I'm not sure if all of the three above him actually played

Wasnt Sail selling his stuff on vic deals recently? I thought he was gone burger?

and while I'd like to see him play, if Smith is here next year, then I think he should get the nod.
