Obviously I've got no way of knowing this for sure but I'd be prepared to bet that among players Chris Beath is one of the least popular A League referees. You can see players visibly bristle as Beath drags them aside for yet another long schoolmarmish lecture, and a lot of hisdecision making is muddled and inconsistent. It's very frustrating for those on the field (not to mention off) and that frustration often has consequences in the form ofpoor discipline, brutal tackles and diving.

His handling of the Melbourne derby last week was one of the worst reffing displays I've seen and exemplified everything bad about Beath. Certainly not arguing about Muscat's responsibility for that tackle but at least some ofthe blame has to be shared by Beath for his mishandling of the game up to that point.
You can't blame him for diving, brutal tackles and poor discipline. The guy is just a f**king awfull ref. After 20 min. yesterday I said to my mates- watch the cards come out in the second half.
Most of the refs are over lenient in the first half by trying to be Mr Nice guy(which does not work) and they then relise that this has not worked and then they smack everything.
If they laid the law down from the first whistle, then there would not be this raft of cards.
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid
