Well played tonight,  happy with a draw, could have taken all 3 points if luck was on our side.  North played well, him and Durante will be very solid for us. Brown/Ward/Muscat all had good game.  Thought Pav was going to win it for us towards the end there.
Well done boys

Yeah, it's the best 'football' stadium in the league IMO. Fans close to the pitch how is should be.

The crowd were very vociferous even though there was only eleven thousand odd there ,good atmosphere for a Wednesday night nearly as good as us ,well almost!

Caught the last 25 mins.....thought the Nix played some nice football. Nice passing, kept the ball on the ground. A point away in Melbourne is an OK result.

Pav is a bit of a rough diamond....but that touch where he beat the defense was pure class. Shame he shanked the shot but that boy will play many games for the Nix. He also seems to have a good attitude. He certainly puts himself about and presses well. Greenacre will need to lift his game or he will be behind Pav by seasons end.

Best all round performance from the team this season, despite not getting the win. We fully deserved all of the points, although I feared we might concede at the end. Well pleased with the draw, all things considered. It's hard to think of a player to bag, I thought everyone did well. Expect to see the same sort of effort on Sunday, would love to see us get three points.

What he said. Tonight reminded me of a very good battling 0-0 draw away to GCU last season. We had the better of the game overall but just lacked that moment of class to put the ball in the net.

I can't think of anyone to bag either, though I wouldn't want to see Sigmund at RB every week. I think did a solid job today, but other players were doing a lot to help him out as well. As is posted every time he's considered out wide, his pace (or lack of) is an issue.

Now, I'm Pasty till I die, but Vukovic earned his keep today, even though he didn't have much to do.

Ward impressed the hell out of me. Pav, North, Manny and Leo also good.

Was stoked with our performance tonight on the whole. Thought Ward, North, and Leo were good and everyone pretty good apart from Lochy. Bit of a laugh when Ifill got fired up at him. He only hoofs it and struggles to make a 10 yard pass at times.

That aside, great enthusiasm from Pav and bring on the Heart.

Also! Ricardinho looks a hell of a lot like a Samoan for a Brazilian.

As I said the other week, I reckon he's actually Archie's younger half brother.  Richard Thompson, and they made it sound Brazilian so they fans wouldn't think they were being gypped.

I would have happily taken a point before tonights game yet near the end I was thinking that it will be cruel if we lose this as we were for the most part, the better team and had the most chances. hard to pick a stand out player. You can count out anyone from the back four as they had bugger all to do. I think the Durante/North partnership though will be solid. North didn't look rusty at all.
Ward showed some classy touches at times but maybe tries to play the 10% pass a bit too often. Nice to see him try and be creative though. We've lacked that in the middle of the park.

Based on that performance and hoping the players aren't too tired by Sunday, we could be looking at 3 points against Heart.

anyone else think we should drop our strikers and play a 4 - 6- 0 formation. Greenie is pritty much isolated the whole game.

Greenie was isolated, but Pav was getting ball by the truckload. Hmmm.

Just got back from the game - can't be unhappy with a point away from home in a city we don't usually play well in.

1st half was shocking (though we still had more shots than them) 2nd half was much better - just lacked that final ball.

Pavlova was terrifc when he came on, I thought - too bad he didn't get chucked on earlier.

I'd just like to point all those baggy Siggy for his first cross, that Ifill had more crosses than Siggy did, and shanked more of them also.
Permalink Permalink

+ Siggy had a good 2nd cross

Did a good job all-round I thought but he definitely is not a right back. Surprised he didn't play CB and North didn't play RB.

Dura/North partnership looks solid as hell, though.

Want to see Greenacre and Pavlovic start together.  I know we did a 4-3-3 of sorts but in reality Greenacre was further forward than the others and by himself he really is toothless - that's not to say he didn't play his heart out, I thought he did fairly well all things considered.

This is funny, I was thinking mini-Jonah Lomu, especially with that little tuft of hair sticking up at the front.

OK back from pub-game-pub.
Brill home/away banter at stadium. Sizable Phoenix fan base that took the "South End" on. "they're good, you're sh*t" - hilarious.

And now for Sunday. "what's it like to lose at home" will be the chant.

A great day-out, and plenty of good signs.

Edit: It was the South end we were in close proximity to, not the more impressive North end.Turfmoore2010-09-16 18:30:52

Then where does that leave Lochhead's "balls in the stand"?

I hope Siggy doesn't start at RB much more. He is tidy enough but seems to sh*t his pants whenever he gets the ball. And then there's Hearfield.

North was quality.
Ifill is starting to recapture his last yearself it seems.

Btw, Ifill's facials sometimes are so funny. Like when he was having a go at Ferreira and chatting to the ref. And when he told the Boca fella to f**k off a while back.simon_hampton2010-09-16 09:08:22

In his sub appearances, he has done more with what ball he has got. He is a bigger lad than Greenacre, and uses his body well to push the defenders off, its just a shame he didnt manage to hit the target last night.

If he wasnt going away with the olyroo's, he might have been in line for a start against Heart. But I think by the end of the season, if we stick with this formation, he will be starting.

correct. But they are different players. Greenie is never going to be able to bully defenders off the ball. Our system just doesn't suit him.

Dunno how we came over on the TV but we had a a great time. We spent quite a lot of time taking the p*ss out of the South End for being rubbish compared to the North End.

Looking forward to Sunday when we have a few more coming across it seems.

I'm slightly disappointed!

Its a bit of a catch 22 really, we wont see Greenacre at his best unless we play 4-4-2, but we look fragile at the back when we play that way.

Don't know what it is but the last two matches, whilst not classics, have really worked for me.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Ah - think I was a couple of rows behind you. Took us until the 2nd half to get going really - same as the team.

Just a warm up for Sunday!

WP grabbed a valuable point from MV. Yes, WP could have got all 3 points but it didn't happen in the frenetic game from both sides. Go boys!

I thought he looked good on the ball at times last night. For guy out if position, he seemed to make a real effort to get into attacking positions, got a few crosses in, and carried the ball forward a few times. He also made one or two decent interceptions.

My concern was him getting beaten for pace on defence. The likes of Leo, Manny, and the CBs did a great job of helping him out and covering in behind when needed. Overall, I'd give him pass.

However, that was a poor Victory side, and I wouldn't want to see him at RB every week, as better sides will expose him. A good stopgap, but not the solution.
