He was All-American in his senior year at New Mexico State University, which means he was considered one of the best four defenders in the entirety of NCAA Division I, and that isn't something to be dismissed.
College sport and professional sort are two entirely different kettle of fish. I can think of quite a few guys who were awesome in college and busted really badly in the NFL.
