Because it came from his fathers own mouth. I dont think he was using it as a tool to get him a bigger contract just saying how insulting he thought the offer was.
I must say, I'm disappointed in Roddy for shooting his mouth off to you and the Hamilton football scene in general. He knew that you would post it here and then the newspapers would pick it up - it's a kind of a back-handed way to put pressure on Terry. Not that Marco doesn't deserve a special contract at a fair wage (HN's comments seem fair), but this kind of negotiation-by-leaking is pretty grubby.
