Hypothetically ( I don't really have any idea what they are on) would you rather have Big-Mac for 100k or Smeltzy for 400k? I get the impression we will have to shell out quite a bit for him. Not saying we shouldn't because I don't know who else would be available, but he's not the type of player we need at the moment.
And what do we 'need'? Even if we had the A-Leagues best defence we'll probably still struggle to score goals away from home.
IMO in order of priorities
1) Re-sign Marco
2) Right back
3) Ball playing midfielder
4) Quick striker who score lots of goal
I'm not sure if we could get quality for 3 or 4 for that amount of money or not. As I said, I'm not saying we shouldn't go all out for Smeltz, you just need to consider how much it would cost (which would be a lot)�and compare it to what could be spent in other areas.
Well...Midfielder and Striker could be marquee signings and up to $150k of Marco's contract could be outside salary cap. So for those 4 players you would only have the RB and whatever is left of Marco's contract taking up salary cap. All hypothetically speaking.
