Elbe Day, April 25, 1945, is the day Soviet and American troops met at the Elbe River, near Torgau in Germany, marking an important step toward the end of World War II in Europe

The Americans could have pushed on to Berlin themselves but in the spirit of sportsmanship, they held back and let the Red Army take a running start at the Führerbunker


There is more fun in liberating French and Italian wine regions, or the German Rhine / Moselle regions with their excellent white wine, than taking one's chances over the East German potato and beet growing area.
