Wonder how much impact on the Nix backroom staff this is going to have in light of some of Morgan's comments on Campbell Live.
I think this is a great thing. A joint high-performance base in Wellington as Gareth mentions in the Nix press release would be outstanding. Would be great to see the Nix boys get access to the facilities at Rugby League Park, the quality of base that the Canes have compared to the Nix is amazing.
Think the increased leverage this will bring in terms of sponsors is great but the big benefit has to be with the stadium. To have a coordinated approach from the two major tenants can only be a good thing in getting a better service level from the stadium.
Will be interesting to see if there is some administrative cross over, Nix HQ seems pretty lightly staffed and the WRFU/Canes have some pretty good expertise (im slightly biased in this sense - it must be said) in Events management and commerical savvy. Thomas Ben, who is the Nix Commerical Director, was at WRFU as their Comm Director before that so there is already a working relationship. I think this has some really exciting potential.
The other interesting this I took from that release from the Nix was talk of an 'embryonic sports portfolio', I would love to see the Pulse and even the Firebirds all being run out of one organisation. All the Professional Wellington sporting teams pooling resources and expertise would be a great thing I think.

The only issue with all the sports teams being run under one organisation would be that there would be a monopoly on the sporting market in Wellington, which could lead to very bad things.
Hopefully we can learn how to sit on a plane for 3 hours and then play the pants off the opposition.

In terms of ticket pricing? I actually think they are as high as they can be. If anything you will see discounts between different sports to encourage people to go to the different games. I guess I'm saying economies of scale would help things like this happen.
I also don't think they'll behave like a monopoly, they seem to have wellingtons interest at heart.
I think having the scale to get stuff out of the council and to try and push the stadium to do a better job is going to be pretty useful. Wellington lacks an elite level sporting hub - maybe this will help get that on the table?
Normo's coming home
What Boppy said.
And- monopolistic competition won't work with something so price elastic. If prices rise- people just won't go.
I think Gareth's just found a way to get someone else to help pay for sweet new facilities for the Nix. Genius!
I wonder if they'll end up with a sort of Wellington sports super ticket, which gets you into everything... Nix, Canes, Lions, Firebirds, Pulse etc. That might appeal to a few people who wouldn't otherwise buy a Nix ST.
I wasnt sure about this but after reading the last page, particularly the stuff from bopman, i am welexcited
More potential positives than possible negatives.
Cautiously hopeful.

You lot in the first two pages are way too negative on this. Everyone was so paranoid that big brother rugby is going to take over. IMO this can only be positive. Shared facilities, shared sponsorship, shared marketing - it will be great for Wellington.
Gareth was on Wellington's newstalk zb talking about this today: Listen here
