Excellent performance by the lads this arvo. Despite a bit of a wobbly start and a bit of panic at the back to begin with, we really grew into that game exceptionally.
Special mentions to the Kiwi lads who are starting to contribute more and more to the cause. Fantastic header from Old to open his account for the season, Lewis for that cracking free-kick (more of that please!) Kosta just being an absolute menace, but also making some excellent runs in behind and utilising good close passing and movement in that final third - Special mention for hauling ass to keep that ball in play for our opener too!
Sutton going from strength the strength down that left hand side forming a good combination with Kraev and looking every bit like he'll be one of the best LWB in the league - nice assist for him today too for Waineo's goal.
Waineo just keeps doing what we're accustomed to. He'll be snapped up by someone overseas next season surely!? Well, provided the right offer comes in...
Sail, well he couldn't keep the clean sheet, but those couple of early saves off Carter reminded me of the Oli Sail from last season. Good to see him playing with a smile on his face. Looked more assured in between the sticks than he has at any stage so far this campaign.
And finally Callan Elliot. I thought he was going to be thrown to the wolves early on after Macarthur started targetting him down that right hand side - Arzani looked like he might run amok early on. But to his credit he stuck at it, and for most parts he kept managed to keep him right under his thumb. Sure there were a few occasions where Arzani got the better of him, but that's to be expected when you've got the pace and movement that he possesses. Overall though he equipped himself well and even laid on his first assist for the club with a delightful little cross to the near post for Old to nod home.
It is a team game though, and having the likes of Kraev, Bally & Zawada on the scene along with those Kiwi lads makes us a very frightening proposition going forward this season. It's been a while since we've looked such a threat across the park. Think we're just warming into this season quite nicely. If we can shore ourselves up at the back and maintain a strong spine to the team then we're looking promising.
Now hopefully we can back it up again next weekend against a piss poor WU. Lets get a few more than 6,135 in the stands for that one!
COYN!
