The Wellington Phoenix have signed “one of the country’s brightest” talents in Football Ferns midfielder Emma Pijnenburg.
The 21-year-old joins from Dutch club Feyenoord and will be available immediately as a replacement for Alyssa Whinham, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third round of the A-League Women.
Pijnenburg spent three years in the Netherlands and but wanted more time on the pitch after living her dream of playing professional football in Europe.
The seven-cap Football Fern has signed for the Phoenix until the end of their campaign, the club said on Monday.
