Edwards has too many deficiencies like her set play and aerial game.
Needs to develop that part under a more experienced number one.
No point stacking the squad with attacking depth while leaving an achilles heel at the back

I dont think she was that bad! She was equally as good as any of the other keepers in the league bar maybe one or two - for the life of me I cant remember their names, pretty sure one was an american.
But, seriously, like the mens leagiue keepers at this level all have weaknesses.

"But, seriously, like the mens leagiue keepers at this level all have weaknesses."

But I would argue, those teams in Men's (and Womens) A league who's keepers don't have said deficiencies / weaknesses always make the playoffs and tend to challenge for titles.
Critical position to get right in recruitment.

That's true but she improved so much last year.  If she keeps developing she could be great this year and better next.

If a better option pops up I wouldn't be surprised if we nab someone, but feel like there were plenty of other areas to improve.

Kelli Brown with her 21st goal of the season scoring from the spot against Charlotte Lancaster's Bulls team.
Lancaster with a goal herself (2.0 min on highlights.) With a strong header. Then another header off the bar that is eventually turned in by a team mate. (at 2.49) Lancaster is having a good finish to the season. Hopefully she gets an A league contract somewhere.

We need to sign a keeper.

Edward's is just too weak in air for me. I don't see that changing.

If the flight, accommodation & televising costs stack up - they should honestly play at least one game in Christchurch, having such a big number of Cantabs in their team. Plus Canterbury has basically been starved of high level football since the 2011 quake.

Barring the double headers of course, I'm loving the fact that they'll be out of Sky Stadium. Smart move from the club that. Although I'm intrigued to see where the remainder of the home fixtures will be played.

Domey was looking to play one in Palmy last season (but the PN Council Events team never got back to him), so I would think he will be open to the idea.

One of the 7 games not at Sky Stadium will be up in Auckland with the Men's team as a double header.

Can you explain why you love the move from sky stadium. I’m not sure I understand how this is a good thing.

Note: that graphic has the wrong date for the Rnd 2 game. It is a double header with the ALM side at Commbank.

Decreased costs for starters, and with suitable grounds for expected crowd size. Hopefully this results in a better atmosphere and an enhanced experience for those in attendance. Also, I'd rather see a nicely packed 'regional ground' any given day of the week over a 90% empty Sky Stadium. Suffice to say, if there is sufficient demand to see the team play, then I'm also happy to see them revert back to Sky Stadium - should the option be available of course.

I would say viewers would be closer to the action as well, but given I've never been to Newtown Park or Jerry Collins Stadium, I'll reserve judgement on those particular calls.

you'd rather the club spend huge amounts for the sky stadium rental with acround of less than 2000? Put that number at newtown park and it'll packed and going off! same in Porirua. Plus hiring these grounds will be infinately cheaper. Better atmostphere will create bigger demand which inturn may justify using SKy stadium.

If we are to base this off cost alone then I would rather double headers at Sky Stadium which would mean no additional cost at all to the Club. Newtown and Jerry Collins will incur a cost, yes its much less but you also get much less. I still feel this is going backwards. Perhaps if this is where the league started I might feel differently, but to have 2 years of playing at Sky Stadium to then move to a community venue doesn't seem right.

Double headers do cost the club more - its a ridicolous amount as well, I'd heard in the region of $30k just for security!
The atmosphere you'll get from 2K at Newtown or Jerry Collins will be far better than the emptiness you get at the Stadium with the same crowd size

In Ozzy u16s are free admission to ALL ALeague women’s games. Footnote says excludes Wellington home games. That is a massive opportunity to maintain the momentum with building a fan base surely. The Nix need to get on board with this and maybe approach NZ Football to help support this initiative.

Be interesting to see what the other clubs do with where their ALW teams play.

I see above the Nix are down to play Sydney at 43,000 seater Allianz Stadium on 29th Dec, but then go to suburban Perry Park in Brisbane when they play the Roar a week later (7th Jan).

Perry Park in many ways is the perfect ALW venue. Holds 5,000 and very near Bowen Hills train station on the CBD fringe. Home of the Brisbane Strikers.

No worries.
Personally I think it should have been the other way around too - Build it from the ground up and then look to expand, as in, it should have started out at these community grounds before it ever went to Sky Stadium.

But hindsight is a wonderful thing, and given the money that has been put into upgrading these two other parks specifically because of the Women's World Cup - Without which, then I'd say all games would be at Sky Stadium purely because these other facilities wouldn't cut the mustard.

If I could take anything out of this so far though, it's going to be that it will put the acid on the overseers of Sky Stadium, ie - They no longer have free reign over the Phoenix in which they can charge these ridiculous costs. There are more niche options available, and at the end of the day that is a very good thing.

All said and done though if we want to move the game and the team forward, then get out and support the club, go out and buy some merch, and get to games if you can - Make sure the hype around the game doesn't stop just because the world cup is finished.

I mean it’s the same issue the men have had with with crowds 6-11 thousand. The stadium is expensive and often busy with events. Game day should at least attempt to break even. Crowds of 2 thousand are going to sound much better close to the sidelines than rattling round an empty box. First day was 5k with a double header, but I think that was the largest.

Great if you can guarantee the same crowds as for the women’s World Cup though!

Edit: see someone’s said that above. These are footy clubs without club rooms?? Maybe someone can convince Garage Project or someone to set up a tent? Bring back the 433! Club or someone to lay on a supporters bus from pub x what with the wind and the rain? I’m sure there’s some ways around it. Maybe check with the club?

Are you guys the women’s equivalent of the Fever Zone?

The ALW team got 5K to their heavily promoted first ever home game, which was standalone. But by season end the crowds were below 1K it seemed??

They have 2 games at Sky Stadium in the first 3 rounds, I guess the Nix will be looking at those crowds before finalising all of their other home game venues. You would hope for some post WWC lift in attendance. Alot could depend quickly on how they start the season. Win & with some style, and the crowds may surprise. They had an awful start to last season.

Nothing close to Jerry Collins though.

Newtown is packed with pubs all along the main street, you can literally bus from the train station to central Newtown and walk to Newtown Park with ease!

Jerry Collins is close, but Newtown Park has an athletics track if I recall correctly, so stand is a decent way back.

Next question, what is the magic number. There used to be talk of 10k for the men’s ( which we often didn’t reach) to be profitable. So if the men drop below 5k ( made up number) do they get moved? And if the women go above 5k do they move to the stadium? What are the rules around this as we went a number of years with poor crowds for the men. Have Jerry and Newtown really been upgraded that much?

Build stands at Fraser field - 200 yards away from where they train in Upper Hutt! Play all home games for men and women there. 10k sized stadium with terraces on 3 sides and seating on the main part. Trains are a 5 minute walk and the parking is there too. And if you want, you can site see at the Army Camp !

Both grounds are poor options for all concerned. The Nix know that - they just want to save some $ and didn’t even raise that as an issue. Gone backwards. Stick to Sky and suck it up til there is an actual boutique option in the region.
