Great shot from Whinham, unfortunately it was a great save too!

Whinham's injury didn't look good, hopefully she's not going to be out for too long, but from her reaction my hopes aren't high
that was a lovely shot from K.Brown.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.
I feel like none of our crosses have made it past the first person today. just not accurate enough

Injuries despite having the much trumpeted best training facilities in the league - something wrong in conditioning land.
oh, Elliot is a frustratingly talented player. If she puts it all together then she is way to good for this league.

great promise but really should have taken 3 points from that. I hope most of the injured players can be back next week.

She has a fair bit to go

Footage is absolutely horrendous
Just no luck at the moment with injuries (men and women's team).
Why do we shoot early, into the wind, straight at the keeper or miles off target??? Acknowledge that we are unlikely to score from shots from outside the box and get closer to goal when shooting. It was like the players had a 2 second shot clock to get their shots away. Only saw the last 30 minutes but geez, Elliot get closer into the box and work the keeper at least. She’s better than that.
And some of the passes from centre defence to the holding mids were so close to being picked off. We could really get into trouble trying that against better pressing teams.
Nice to see the youngsters getting a decent crack.
We definitely have the abilities to do well, just need a bit more patience and to choose higher percentage options in the attacking third. Is Speckmaier available as a mid season addition? Or Hannah Keane? They would have won the game for us today.

Was at the game and it was a very nice scene. Biggest crowd I've seen there (I've been to a fair few games and had to park much further away than ever before).
We should have won that (like we should have won last week as well). Dominated for long periods and made numerous numerous dangerous attacks but the finishing let it down. Their goalie got also rounded three times (by my count) but we couldn't capitalize - their defence generally did well to scramble it away several times. Otherwise the shots were sprayed al over the place - everywhere except on target (apart from one Whinham cracker which was very well saved, as was a Jale strike). At the end I was just hoping Newcastle didn't nick a win as it wouldn't have been deserved (though I know football can be cruel that way). I just hope these early season missed points don't become very regretted later on.

Well, I hope that day comes soon as I cannot recall her putting in a top performance. Her issue as well as others is that they do not have composure Infront of goal.
Good crowd in, if I heard correctly it was 1299. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Love the womens training kit.

In fairness, the Jets keeper pulled off 4 excellent saves.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Its still early days and we are unbeaten. However the expectations for our womens team are very high. Probably higher than for the men. Lots of resources have gone into this team so not winning at home piles on the pressure. You dont want to be chasing the league because of a slow start
Crowd looks terrible?
1292, so significantly better than last season’s best home attendance (1015 against Victory on 8 Feb if I’ve read the numbers right).
Watching the highlights it did look worse than it felt being there though, I think it’s partly that a lot of people chose the sunny grassy areas over the stands (a smart choice!) so they were largely out of camera view.
I agree with the comments about the video not being as good from the new spot, but my bigger grumble about the new configuration is that putting the dugouts on the far side loses a lot of the connection with fans. We can still applaud players when they’re subbed off but it’s not the same when they’re walking away from us instead of towards us.

It’s not a question of blame so much as understanding what’s going on and what if anything can be done to improve the situation.
I haven’t sat down and looked at how many injuries other teams are carrying, but my subjective perception is that across both our women’s and men’s teams we have way more than we should and it’s killing us despite the coaching staff’s best efforts to adapt.
Maybe that perception is skewed because I’m painfully aware of the impact our injury tally is having, or maybe we really are a statistical outlier. If so then it’s not unreasonable to ask why - is it just rotten luck early in the season or are there causes the club can influence?
Luckily for us we have back room staff who’re way smarter than me and do this analysis for a living, so I have no doubt they’re doing everything in their power to attack the problem.
To have 60% of our imports and two of our best homegrown players injured is a massive handicap. That's half of our team gone.
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
It's pretty simple!
Our teams injuries are always going to be more obvious and have a bigger impact than any other team.
Even if you're aware of every injury that is impacting other teams you're own team's injuries are likely to feel more important.

Queenslander 3x a year.
Enjoyed watching (most of) the game. Good atmosphere. Injuries are very frustrating I agree. Surely the club takes pre-hab seriously, but it is annoying as we don't typically have the depth to cover those players as other teams do. Both men/woman have had an ok start to the season. It can go either way from here.
Thought Jale and Bott were much improved in the midfield. And we are pretty solid at the back, bar the odd brain fade. (Walker looking good). Awesome debut start for Pia Vlok.
Execution in the final third still seems to be our biggest problem. As per last season. Need to fix this if we are going make any impact this year.
Obviously having 3 of 5 imports out injured, And 4 probable starters not in the match day squad hurts.
With all the injuries, a few being in the pregame build up period Smaba and Leon for example. And lots of injuries which disrupted pre season according to the coach. The question does need to be asked. Are we doing something wrong with our plyer conditioning program? Mens and women.

Both games we have played this season. The opposition goalkeeper has made A league team of the week !
She is back in the Football Ferns after about a year out, and I'm sure she has ambitions to upseat Esson as the no 1 GK.

Yep injuries seem to be an issue for both teams not sure i would be blaming conditioning though. Chief said befor the derby of the 9 injuries they had only one was a soft tissue injury im no expert but for me that dosnt sound like conditioning.
Thing i like with both teams think its obvious the best is yet to come.

Best Ive seen so far of Jale. She was outstanding as was Bott.
Any news on Alyssa’s injury?
We owned that right hand side the whole game.
Some thoughts:
- Brooke Nunn looks like being a very useful pick-up
- We missed Samba; Main huffed and puffed, but disappointed
- Pia Vlok had a superb showing in her starting debut, two great defence-splitting passes, one of which led to the goal
- Quite like Jale in her new more central role, she is far more involved and disruptive to the opposition and contributes long cross-field passes, cf. to her previous year positioning on the wing
- Leat's sweeping was a big part of the difference for them cf. Esson. Leat can be heart attack inducing (if she's on your team), but gave the Jets almost an extra out-field player when they were in possession.
- the frustration with (lack of) clinical goal scoring continues to haunt this team as in previous years
- Barry's rugby tackle (face palm!) when Jale was already clearing the ball!
football tragic for too long
Ella Jereez seems to be the forgotten player as far as academy grads go. Is she injured or just not in favour.

Pretty sure Jerez was an unused sub in the Nationals game on Sunday, but definitely match-fit and she’s been getting some minutes.
