Was Esson in goal for that corner? It was shocking goalkeeping.

She was.

Then Essons aerial technique is rather suspect - she showed some weakness in recent internationals.

So far, Esson has not impressed as much as our previous two "foreign" keepers, I agree.

The jury is still out on Samba, doesn't look fit,but if not,why are they starting?  The Nepalese crowds seem to think she's a star,  I have to say, well...

Watching the hilights on YouTube we had so many good chances from inside the box we could have scored 5-6.

We also seemed to think we could score goals from outside the box. I’m not sure why, we never have before. I would rather they don’t shoot unless they are inside the box. If we pass the ball into the bottom corner we would score 3-4 easy. We seem to choose the hardest option.

I hope we can get some confidence and swagger in front of goal soon.

Well I did say we could score 5-6, I will accept 7 unanswered goals most definitely. Even better is that we could have and should have scored more and also that we can play better still. Be happy with the progress but don’t be content that is our maximum. Always be aiming to improve even the small things. Great to make a statement win though!

Poor finishing ability is and has always been the achilles heel of both men's and woman's football in NZ

From what I saw we were just perhaps not looking for the last pass to an extra player rather than taking the shot - we often had an extra in a threatening position. Just a wee bit more composure would help, but that said these things are easier to view from the sideline rather than in the the thick of it. Also from what i could see Samba is strong, can hold the ball, beat players, pass well, get into space and is attack minded - the best is yet to come I'd say. Last night it just seemed the luck wasn't with us (again) as we were dominating. Our loopy header hit the post - their loopy corner went in. Overall they are playing better than last season so I think they'll get better. Hope so as the men aren't able to break the hoodoo starts either.

I am trying hard to think of any player who has come through the academy who has been a regular goal scorer at A league level both men and women. Maybe Ben Waine?

It's hard to score goals when your teammates are taught to pass backwards all the time...

Define regular?

Singh 39 Nix games, 9 goals
Waine 71 Nix games, 17 goals
Old 71 Nix games, 7 goals
Macey Fraser 19 Nix games, 3 goals - might get there if she returns to form she had in her first Nix stint

Another week where the opposition goal keeper makes A league team of the week....
Mania Elliot has been playing really well on the wing from what I've seen. Some of her cut backs and crosses have been excellent. But she must now have an awesome highlights reel of misses. Getting in the right positions but either not hitting the target or their goalkeeper making a great save.
Samba looks good though. Hopefully she is just warming up. And the goals will come steadily once she scores her first.
A league women's transfer window closes Dec 29th. Any rumours of incoming signing to replace Tessel Middag ?
