Chris Wood set for Crystal Palace medical if Leicester City can complete deal for Jermain Defoe
Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest | England)
window is closing as we speak eh? 11pm BST - wood and smith to palace with a couple of hours to go?
Leicester sign Tom Lawrence from Manchester United. It will be hard for Wood to get much game time.

On the bench today as Leicester had a win
on the bench today as Leicester made history
Shame he didn't make it onto the pitch. With Man Utd's defence he would probably have scored one or two!
Didn't suit their tactics of exploiting space behind the Man U full backs with pace.
Hope he gets another run soon.
Did Nugent score today... he must be close to getting dropped. Yet to score after 5 games.
The Nudge scored their first from the penalty spot...and TBH it was a very soft penalty....but they scored 4 more so MU can't go crying too much about it.
MU need a Winston Reid very, very badly. 150 million quid spent and not a CB to drink.
Didnt get on today and based on this 'Ask The Opposition' post on redcafe.net, Leicester fans believe he is still raw and not up for it yet.
Q7: Chris Wood. Is he any good? He's one of, if not the, first team strikers for his National team and pops up with some crucial goals now and then, but seems to be out of the starting eleven wherever he goes. What's that about?
Vlad the Fox: Started like an express train but injury put him out the team for a while and he's struggled to recapture his form since. Though you need to remember he is young however me he needs to work on his game a bit more, close control could be improved.
ADK: He's a good finisher and imo intelligent. He lacks pace, agility and is not as good in the air as you might expect for his height. Basically plays the same position as Ulloa but isn't as good.
lestajig: He is a good squad player for us, but the stats speak for them self last season,
Wookie: All round play is pretty poor, he's a poacher trapped in a target man's body.
Deucalion: Chris Wood is a good player but he isn't proven at Premier League level. It has to be remembered he is only in his early 20s though, and may yet do so. The best thing for Wood is a loan deal to keep him fit and playing as I think his first team starts will be limited this season.
inckley fox: He hasn't learned to make use of his physique. He's not aggressive enough and doesn't do enough in the air. And, on top of that, he seems to waste his opportunity every time he's thrown into a starting line-up. But he's not far off being a decent player.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo: He had an amazing honeymoon period with us where he just seemed to bang the goals in left right and centre. Fell off the boil following a minor injury or two and never seemed quite as good since. Mind you with Vardy and Nugent being so effective last season and Kevin Phillips being a really great sub it was always going to be tough for him to find his way back into the side. He's proved against Everton he's still got a role to play though and if he plays well when given the chance then he might play a bigger role
Collymore: Yeah he plays for New Zealand pal, I'd get a game for them! He's one of those players who is always waiting to burst onto the scene, before you know it, he's retired! I think Keyv Phillips will have a positive impact on him though... Watch this space.
cjslcfc: As someone else eloquently put it, he is a poacher trapped in a target man's body. If he had pace he would really be a very good striker. He isn't too great in the air and doesn't hold the ball up that well. But the boy can finish and strike a ball. We do forget he is still only 22 though. Lots of improvement in him with the experience of the league.
that's positive and tallies with most assessments of him. Kevin Phillips coaching, the ability to go on scoring streaks, prone to some poor form.
It would be tough for him to knock out Vardy and Ulloa. But with injuries and the length of the season I think he's really made the right choice. He's already got one and if he gets a run of games and can do some business that can only be good for him.
That is an interesting assessment and on reflection, surprisingly accurate (he is a poacher trapped in a target man's body)

That's why we love him, lots of us can relate to being trapped in a target man's body!
not even on the bench today
not even on the bench today
Nor named in the u-21 reserve side for the current game vs. Chelsea u-21 which features a few senior players.
Suggests he may be carrying a niggle?
#lcfc U21s to face @chelseafc : Smith, Pearson (c), Chilwell, Rowley, Sesay, Elder, Albrighton, Taylor-Fletcher, Powell, Cain, Lawrence
#lcfc U21 subs: Moore, Maddison, Barmby, Scott, Stankevicius
any more news on what's happening with him?
Ulloa, Vardy and Nugent all started this week. Wood is clearly considered to be number 4 striker at best. Even if one of those 3 strikers gets injured or loses form, I think a winger would be most likely to come into the side. Wood is going to struggle for game time.
Chris is New Zealand's seventh highest-paid sportsman according to a Herald survey, earning about the same as our top All Blacks:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c...
Details on Chris and his earnings:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c...
His estimated $NZ 2.2 million per annum places him just below Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.
"...Wood is estimated to earn between £20,000-£25,000 a week for his club, bringing his annual salary to around $2.2 million."
Winston Reid is number two on the list to Russell Coutts by one million dollars (but actually could be at number one since no one knows his actual earnings and the 11 million pounds per annum they quote is a low estimate).
I would argue that Coutts actually isn't earning much of that money as a sportsman - most of his earnings come as head of a yachting syndicate, not from sailing.
Another game on the bench in the draw with Burnley. Must be very frustrating for him.
Dont panic Capitain Mannering, he is the fourth striker, people will get injured, he will get game
It seems like Leicester play 4-3-3 alot. The problem for Wood is he is only going to be the central striker in that 3. On the wings they have Mahrez and Knockaert who are also competing with Wood.
got 2 goals in a friendly win 3-2 over Villa tonight. seems to be scoring when playing.
Link to article in the Leicester Mercury:
Not playing today, not on the bench
Made it back on the bench, not used tho, in a 2 nil loss.
Came on at 81 mins in a 1 nil home loss
He apparently had quite a good cameo as well.
They're not scoring any goals at the moment so you would think he can't be far off getting a chance.
the chatter at Leicester has started.....

there are many 'piss off he is crap' posts but Ulloa hasn't scored since the 5-3 man utd. meltdown and Nugent was apparently terrible vs. west brom so it won't be too long until he gets some proper minutes
Nugent and Vardy would be the vulnerable players. I doubt they would drop Ulloa. I'm not sure how they have lining up recently but Leicester were playing a lot of 4-3-3 where they pick two wingers and only one striker. Not many chances to play therefore if you are 4th choice striker. Wood being a target man also limits his opportunities.
can't see him starting but I can imagine him getting a good half hour if Ulloa doesn't deliver in the next match and gets pulled off

Ulloa was already relegated to the bench vs. West Brom and like Wood came on as a second half sub.
Pearson started with Nugent, Vardy and King up front.
None of their strikers are impressing at the moment.
It will be Pearson's head if they go into Christmas in the bottom 3
Sounds like Wood came off the bench this morning in a 2-0 and was very poor. Fans giving him a 3 or 4 out of 10.
Came on at 71 mins, Had a chance and muffed it
Just watched it. Don't think he was that terrible. Should have put away the goal, but the whole Leicester team was poor during that period. They hardly attacked. One of their few good opportunities was when Wood won a free kick.
Even in the one-on-one he shook off his defender like they were a rag-doll, but didn't have the skill to chip the keeper- could possibly have tried to go around him.
Haven't watched the rest of the game, but Southampton were 2-0 up with about 3 minutes to play when he missed. They all count, but I certainly don't think he was the worst.
Still in the picture. Came on at 88 Mins. Nil all draw with Sunderland, gave them a point for first time in 5 games. Now 17th
5 games on the trot that the foxes have failed to score. Chris hasn't played many minutes in that run, so pressure on the other strikers, but did miss one he should have scored when he was on a few matches back.
not even on bench last night
Is he injured or simply wasn't picked in the squad at all?
