If you really want to watch some long ball, head out to Sunnyvale & watch Josh Dykstra pump lost causes to the GI frontline, who have only managed to score two goals against the teams above them...

I quote voice of reason: "Barca play route 1", and he has the negligence and the ignorance to label me illl-informed. Now I've heard it all! You must be in need of mental rehabilitation if you think Barcelona kick the ball long. Honestly, just stop embarrassing yourself because we're all having a laugh at you right now. Saying that route 1 is better for the development and success of football is the most possible deluded statement you could make. Next thing he'll be defending David Moyes and saying that he did a good job at United with your amount of peterbed idiocy.

ROFL when did I say Barca play Route 1?  I said, Barca play long balls ffs.  And if you hang around I'm sure people are gonna post clips of Barca playing it long cos there are loads - and then what are you gonna do? And when did I say Route 1 is better for development?  How many time do I have to say it dude.  Learn to read. You are easily the biggest nut job on this forum ever.

@Voice of Reason are you mentally impaired? Obviously everyone occasionally kicks it long in times of danger. The difference is that Barcelona are known for lucrative passing football, whereas this league is known (very well) for kicking it long at every given possibility. E.g. Barca earn a free kick on the half way line and they play it short. In our league someone earns a free kick on the half way line and everyone charges into the penalty area to get on the end of a hopeless ball in. You can't compare the two on the same level. Kicking it long will win you nothing in professional football nowadays. Please don't dig a deeper hole for yourself than you already have. It's pathetic watching you defend route 1 football.

I agree! To be able to win games out of Dunedin in this whole of a league you need to play penetrating passes through the oppositions defensive and then have a half decent striker who can finish it! Where as some teams in this league just kick it long and rely on pace! It would be fair to say us plainsmen and the likes of Northern and gi play the most attractive football

@Voice of reason, There was a time, not so long ago, when even saying “long ball” was to recreate the “Jehovah” scene in Monty Python’s Life of Brian. The worst of the English “Route One” game was really sky ball, in which the orb was punted, or scooped, to a tall striker who would receive it with his back to goal or nod it down so an onrushing midfielder could win the “second ball”. At its most crude, it was eyeball death, perdition, an insult to the idea that football could be a game of grace and self-expression. A disgrace to the culture of football.

You know something.  I think I must be mentally impaired to keep replying to someone who can't read, write, think or understand football at the most basic level.  I hope you enjoy the rest of your life in weirdsville.  Me, I'm gonna have a beer and watch Tech or Cavy win the league (again - unless the Plainsmen pull it off somehow) while Northern or whoever else it is in Dunedin you promote as the torchbearers of football achievement gets dawked every week from now until eternity.

@Voice of reason, I have less posts than you and much more karma, so obviously the masses are agreeing with me more than you. How does it feel to be completely deluded? Must feel good. Tech and Cavy are basically better than Madrid and Barca in your opinion. You can you look in the mirror at yourself in the morning knowing you're that deluded? Unbelievable.

Yeah Tech and Cavy are better than Madrid and Barca. Exactly the point I was trying to make.  Thanks for clearing that up.  I don't feel so deluded now.

I have never gone home from a game involving Northern and thought 'well at least they tried to play football'. The hypocrisy of some of the recent argument is utterly mind boggling. Can I get this right; you're saying the bottom 5 teams play a better style of football then the top 2 teams of the FSPL? Considering the standard of football in this part of the country has deteriorated in the last 10 years beyond recognition, I can not believe the likes of Northern, who remember were pumped 15 nil in the weekend which is an absolute disgrace, can play Barcelona style football. They must have enough trouble lacing their boots to worry about passing to feet in the middle of a Bogg mid-winter Dunedin pitch. Jesus.

If our Northern players were used in Southern United we would do a much better job than those tech and cavy boys who made a joke of the team this year, like they do each year! A blindfolded monkey could have done a better job. Luiz is the only manager that actually tried to help the team evolve and play passing football (and he got a better result in the league than either Murray or Fridge), but because of the nature of the culture here, and fans such as yourselves wanting to see brainless route 1 football, you can enjoy watching your selected southern outfit losing week in week out when national league comes about. You just wait, it'll be a spectacle.

Southern United could realistically have a stronger squad than last year and encompass players from across the teams. There's a few of our lads at Mosgiel that deserve a call up and could play that level.

It's the scoreline - it's got everything to do with it.  It's the only thing that matters.

Gosh some good tips on how to play football on this thread.

Good job I was coached by someone that knew a thing or four about how to win at the top level, just beyond FSPL and NZFC me thinks.

As for the coaching names or otherwise being lambasted on here, it's what they do with who they have playing that sorts the good or pathetic coach/manager.

$$$ helps at any level of any sport for the best equipment or players available.

The one bug bear I have with coaches is their lack of ability to actually see the problems that the team has on the park.

Playing players out of position unless forced to [sending offs etc] I don't now what they are looking at some days, no problems with trying to get a miss match in your favour. Some days you just see the line up and shake your head and go why.

To keep Dunedin Technical in the running for the league wouldn't you want us to beat or draw with Cavy to stop them running away with it? Moronic statement at best.

Finally that National season is over. More time for everyone to talk about G.I. Can't wait for the season to start proper now, then all you guys will have to bow down to us. we'll lead the league from round one all the way through to August. We are you Champions in waiting! GI! GI! GI!

Funny what you find when you go back a couple of years on this forum isn't it No Joy No Tech? or should I say Green Onion?
