The underachieving 11 for 2015-

Zane "ZG" Green or aka DAD as he is know out on the plains. Starting off the season with great leadership skills and a couple of MOM awards things quickly went down hill, conceding 28 in his last 5 and handing over the captaincy after a bust up with Brookside. 4/10

Jesse Wright- After a tight first round for the mighty blues and a cracking equaliser late against GI to save a point a mixture of injuries, inexperience and cockiness caught up with the journeyman. 5/10

Tom "TK" Kindley- I'm hearing whispers out on the plains that Mosgiel punters are solely blaming their end on season shambles on the young Mosgiel prodigy. His brain fade again Caversham and subsequent three match ban was the start of a downhill spiral for a inexperienced Mosgiel side. 5/10

Cam Attwood- Whether is was the pressure of coaching or playing at the same time this young guy from Wellington with so much potential is leaving empty handed after four cold years down south. No doubt his heart was in the right place but poor guidance. 6/10

Ewan Bakker- after not being wanted at Tech he finally found a home at Varsity. Good touch and pass but never lived up to the potential he had when arriving at Culling. 3/10

Isacc Snell- Don't know if the guy got caught up in the hype of his older team mates on the plains or he had big tickets on himself after his time at ACFC but after making Ross Howard his bitch in round one nothing really went right for the first year Aucklander. Like he pointed on publicly on Facebook a while back tho, they're the best team but just have just had a couple of unlucky results. 4/10

Morgan Day- More yellow cards than forward facing passes (3) 2/10

Patrick Ebanda- Played 12- 2 reds- 4 yellows. Time to step aside 3/10

Curtis Day- Through more fault of CT than his own. Needs to play one position consistently 5/10

Ben Kiore- Only two goals scored against any team in the top four. Not good enough from a youth international. 5/10

Regan Coldicott- Three rounds. 1-Rusty 2-Injured 3-unfit. Mosgiel needed him more than Frachini. A long way from his best. 5/10

Honourable mentions-

What a load of bollocks. Mosgiel have had 4 losses only to Tech and Cavvy - albeit lost them badly which is where all the goals came from. We've kept 7 clean sheets on the way this season and we've drawn with Cavvy and beaten Tech in the process. 4 games with a fudgeload of goals doesn't write us off that easily, none of the other teams have beaten us either. We've improved on last year when most other teams haven't, and lessons learnt (social media, squad depth etc etc). In fact with all due respect the real team to be critical is Tech who have finished runners up to Cavvy again - especially given Cavvy's aforementioned record. But all credit to Tech in the cup and I hope they smash those assholes from mangere. 4 games wont write me off that easy. Farking trainspotters.

Quote of the year has to go to Mosgiel's Zane Green after the 2-2 draw at Tonga park earlier in the year.

zg I think the lesson to be learnt here is pretty clear. when caversham come calling you take up there offer. you could have won the league this season and kept more clean sheets, Would have done a lot for your southern utd hopes. sometimes you have to put loyalty aside. Im predicting mosgeil to be better next year and put a challenge in but think caversham will win it again.

The Morgan that trained with Caversham but wasn't willing to fight for a starting spot so decided to stay at Mosgiel? He made a good choice, he's not fit to lace up Andy Ridden or mike Hogans boots

TC calm down.  Football is played on the pitch.  Mosgiel are a nice side and play nice footy.  But they imploded this season against the big lads as they have done for the last decade or so even under MM. And what's changed under Andy? Sweet Fanny Adams that's what.  So he's Andy Pandy even - too freekin soft with the boys.  Can you imagine what TH would do if the Cavy boys acted up?  He would slap them good and hard I reckon.  Less social media chit chat - more fancy footwork on game day FTW.

I endorse this.  Both players are top drawer I think.  But this.  "Anyone can look good when a team is winning by 5 goals every week".  How do Cavy do that?  TJ, AR, SR, RH, JF and CF we hear about. One is outstanding and the others are pretty good.  But is it  just because of 6 players?  Other teams have that.  I'm wanting to know about the Cavy way.  It's said it's coaching. But really is it just that?

Are they underwhelming? Roslyn have a good core of older players as well as arguably the best young player in dunedin. It must be something about their winning/ruthless mentality? Man for man, are they 40+ goals better than Tech? You wouldn't suggest they are. Steve Fleming has obviously passed some certain valuable things onto Tim Horner. The same goes for the older players onto the younger players coming through which is just creating a continuos cycle. Obviously you still need talented players to work with and mould in the first place.

fair point, however i dont believe roslyn are as good as you say and the quality of caversham players is undeniable im just saying if ben kiore swapped in for say lewis jackson and attwood swapped for ridden you wouldnt notice that much of a difference, obviously one from each pairing is arguably better but when surrounded by quality players your level of performance always increases. attwood has undeniable quality when i watched him and kiore was almost expected to carry an entire team on his back, an average team full of inexperience and youth. however both players did underachieve in a sense considering there expectations so i can see your reasoning behind there inclusion.

I doubt that. mosgiel have improved and maybe GI have to but the rest of the league has stayed the same. tech havent improved at all and finished 2nd behind Caversham as they always do. no improvement from them whatsoever and mosgiel are still a young side. more chamce mosgiel will win the league in the years to come than tech I believe.

I was referring to this year when I said Tech had more chance of winning the Chatham cup than Mosgiel winning the league.

Have Mosgiel improved? For me they need at least two defenders. Tk has proven he is a fletcher cup player at best and Corckill hasn't been his consistent self.  What happened to Beckers? You just need to look at the goals conceded isle to see where it's all gone wrong. Cavvy and Tech have only conceded 13,16 respectively, where as Mosgiel have conceded 40. There's you problem Brookside. Time to get the cheque book out on the plains.

What happened last night with Tech V Uni? Big surprise

Watched both games Tech V Uni , from what I saw the teams were practically the same , with the exception of Uni using there subs from Sat to start last night , the 3 players which came off the bench in a triple substitution may no impact and im pretty sure they started on Sat ,

Tech played well on a good surface , food for thought for our game on Sat

As a neutral observer of the league, (previously hailing from the mighty Waikato and supporting my beloved Melville) - I have enjoyed getting around the parks this season and I have been following the league closely. Especially with the infallible volunteer coverage from Rab Smith/Otago. I just wanted to add my statistical and observers view. If I had to pick a team of the year it would probably resemble the following.

Green (c)

Cotter  Joy Fitzpatrick Ferguson

Ryder Franchini  Ridden  McLennan

McCormack T Jackson

Green has been much maligned this half year but I had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing Mosgiel play Caversham and Dunedin Technical 4 times in about 5 weeks. Even Neville Southall couldn't have helped Mosgiel from being ruthlessly destroyed in these games with a Mosgiel team that failed to afford their goalkeeper any help, resistance or assistance. Mosgiel conceded 3 goals in the opening round without loss. I believe Massimo Taibi could have been in goal for Caversham or Dunedin Technical and it would not have mattered such is the strength of their respective defensive teams. Green has vocally lifted this Mosgiel side as captain and has been the driving influence under Franchini with their success this season. The statistics show this. He is a much calmer player than he was in the Northern Leagues without a doubt.

Jackson is without a doubt a lethal finisher and could walk into most ASB teams. His positional play and reading of the game off the ball is what makes him so good. His finish isn't half bad either.

Ferguson has a tireless work ethic and marshals his touchline expertly and plays a deft cutback from the by-line that allows Jackson et al to score. A smart player that uses his experience to his advantage.

If I had to pick a team to support it would be Mosgiel - but hailing originally from the Waikato and supporting Melville - why pick the obvious winners, I prefer the battlers much more entertaining to watch.

Just my humble opinion. Thank you for the entertaining season and well done to Caversham for winning the league and Dunedin technical for being the one team to beat them.

It was a coin-toss between Green and Joy. Green wins because the change in the team in comparison to the year before his arrival - so it was based on his impact, but I can be swayed either way.

I was also trying to decide between Josh Stewart and Taylor McCormack and may reconsider Stewart to the target/holding role. He can win balls in the air with physicality and support the finishing striker.

When is the squad selected for Southern United? We could see Batty, Green, and Dijkstra all contesting the number one. Good goalkeeping stocks even after Little's departure. Dijkstra and Cotter still able to play youth I believe and therefore will not need to count for the number of senior players selected.

Will have to be a better season than last year - has anyone heard what the format is for 2016/2017?
