Why? It's already an unbalanced competition so having 5-6 sides of a 10 team comp having no show of winning it is the same as having 4-5 of an 8 team comp.

If, and yes it is a big if, the 10 sides started 2016 with the same playing and coaching staff then the relegation scrap would be a season long slug fest. Result wise this is a far more interesting viewing experience tha the top end of the table.

So let me get this right. Your saying that for the excitement of watching teams fight for relegation is a good reason for a 10 team league?? Its this sort of backward view why the standard of football in the region is in such a mess, you only need to look at the Canty Utd squad to know that there is absolutely no talent spread whatsoever. Going to a 10 team league is just going to make a farce of the league and ultimately dilute the already poor standard.

I know many clubs had their awards evening last night. Would be great if someone could post the main winners - Player of the Year etc.

Also any announcements around coaches for 2016. Cheers in advance.

Hell if there is more interest in the relegation battle lets make it really interesting if we ever go to ten teams why not make it the 9th and 10th team go down. I know it will not happen as no chance of going to 10 teams in the near future.

A game is exciting when both sides have something to play for.  Currently there is next to no point in watching the top end procession. Given the likelyhood of Halswell, Chch U, FC and Selwyn being at a 'similar' level it is hardly an out there suggestion. Quality is relative as well. Some of the things I might value, you or others might think are worthless. So in some regard, the MPL/WPL results can be a marker for quality. And close games that mean something generally increase the entertainment value.

Did the top 4 MPL sides play 'quality football'? Some of the games I watched Coastal play the answer would no. Other games in part, and a couple of games Yes.

If the standard of the league is poor ( I hear this comment regularly) and the talent spread is a closed shop then it needs to be addressed that we have a club bottle neck. I have banged this drum on here for 5 years so won't go over it again. But the lack of quality players can be mitigated by local players representing their local club. As opposed to having a choice of CTFC, Coastal or FC. Will CFA merger with FC2011 make things better? Can we expect Waimak and Selwyn to step up? Would Selwyn's growth undermine Halswell? Will the summer training hubs see further junior club migration to 'big clubs'.

One positive I can see is the kids in FTC play 'better quality' football than my generation ever did. If they play MPL then I would argue the 'quality' of the league will rise inasmuch the football astehetics these  guys bring is something I value.

As above, others may find it horseshark

2/10 can work if you have 12 sides. We don't , Nomads would make 11. Either another Nelson side or Waimak for 12.

As I said earlier there just isn't enough talent to justify another 2 teams that's the downside right there along with the integrity and standard of the league, which I'm sure many will agree is poor. I just cant see how 2 of Selwyn, ChCh United, Nomads or Waimak are going to add anything of value footballing wise to the Mpl, I wish I was wrong on this..

Biggest downside is no Southern league, football in the region and I'm going back to the early to mid 90s was at its strongest when the Southern league was running. The standard of the divisions below at the time was decent as well. Some of the Sunday league teams back then would not have looked out of place in todays Mpl.

The big question remains what has happened between previous eras and now as to why we are seeing a decline in standard of our top league/s

Selwyn I believe could actually add alot to mpl . They have the same amount of potential as do fc. Both coming up through the ranks

Hopefully sounds like the mood may be changing around meaningful talks around investigating how / who may be interested in playing in a traveling South Island League.

I see the result for the final round of the MPL has been amended to show Christchurch United beating Coastal Spirit 1-0. Is that a miss print? Or has that been changed (from 1-2) for specifics reasons?

Strange that only altered to a 1 - 0 win as normally any breach of rules normally results in a 3 - nil scoreline, with the two Coastal's scorers Tim Dunn and Andrew Storer goal's now deleted from the record books.

I see foal30 is saying the loss of points was due to playing an ineligible player, so assume this was around Steve Ager appearance late in the game.

Seems to be rife all this playing of unregistered/transfer cleared players, noted that the CTech first team management also getting in on the act several weeks ago.

Congratulations go to JB and his CTFC team for another top season. A special mention also to Paul Nicholls for the work he's put in behind the glory boys over a long time for [add all first names here]Techs. Well done.

For all those wanting a ten team MPL. Chch U won the title then the nest three years it was Halswell.

Moving from 12 to a ten team league had Tech, Uni and Woolston going down with Cashmere W promoted, how things change.

Bays second from bottom to only a very poor Richmond side then bottom the following year not that long ago.

Steve has been getting harder to look at yes, but we all decline with age. I do however commend you on your diplomacy, in using the term "late in the game" in place of "advancing years" or even "increasing decrepitude", so thank you for that.

It appears that rule 3.6 of Mainlands regulations may have applied if that is why the change was made.

3.6

A team playing an unregistered or ineligible player shall be fined pursuant to the Fines and Fees Schedule and shall forfeit any points arising from any match in which an ineligible player participates. All matches in which an unregistered or ineligible player has played in shall be recorded as a win to the non-offending team and the following shall apply:

3.6.1 The offending team shall forfeit any points gained. Goals scored by that team shall be forfeited and the goals against shall stand;

3.6.2 The opposing team shall be awarded the points for the match. Goals scored by that team shall stand and the goals against cancelled;

3.6.3 If both teams are found to have played such ineligible players, the match result shall be cancelled. Fines shall be imposed pursuant to the Fines and Fees Schedule and the match shall be replayed at the discretion of the DMG or Competitions Manager.

Not a good look! Does Coastal not have any Masters teams?

lol  this place is becoming like a tabloid newspaper.

The player in question is old. Like the mountains.

He played illegally in an MPL game

It's hideously embarrassing

Everyone involved is appalled by it

The competition has been ruined by this one act that clearly there are not near enough harsh penalties for, so we must attack the shark out of it as often as we can because our lives are now empty, given that the season is over...

Cashmere Tech have a secret agenda to ruin the careers of Stu Kelly and Aaron Clapham by kicking the ball over their heads at every opportunity into the space beyond.

Kim Kardashians boobs are not real

Miley Cyrus is actually a boy

Prince George is actually David Beckhams love child (just to stay on topic)

In other words, it's obvious and unarguable so move on.

You ask people to move on, but i see you haven't moved on from our love off  hoof ball. Pot kettle

Were u hoping this wouldn't be public knowledge maybe mainland need to publish there findings and punishments and we can  move on for you.

Steve is not the guilty one here the coach didn't need to put him on or the club agree to it.

As a kid my favourite drink was a  raspberry slushy .

I was  wondering  if  you  were a plum flavoured one or maybe a  grape ( of the sour variety) flavoured one , or maybe a non flavoured one , one of no substance .

I'll go with plum as I kind of like plums  depending how ripe they are

please don't move on . its just a forum - banter , trolling, unreasoned opinions etc. etc. are par for the course .

want to get serious then join a committee or even better join a committee with a wee bell and tassels on it and call it a board. does the alcoholic slushy come in beer flavour ?

Pretty sure Josh played. Pretty sure it's not that interesting, unless of course he was an illegal fourth substitute!!!! Now THAT is a scandal worthy of the back page of The Press...

Of course if CashTech strung together more than three passes (none of which were more than 60 metres!) before scoring, even that story might still end up on the editing room floor.

you sure because I'm in osheas and young Josh is telling me he never got on... Not like u to talk shark

That s an improvement from you , 60 yard long pass, now your calling it a pass . Thanks for the compliment .

Although were a similar  age I had to get someone to point you  out at Garrick in our last game against coastal , so I can't remember ever playing against you , did you ever play?

At that same game you got excited when coastal equalised , quite rightly so as you are a very loyal supporter.

Although it was disappointing after another long ball and we went 5-1 up , to see you scuttle out of the ground with 20 to go
