Hearing Rory Crow is pretty keen on the GI job but might have some stiff competition from Murray Devereux, who's got a bit more confidence since the recent senior level 2 course.

No official release from Sunnyvale but Richard Kerr-Bell has accepted the head coach role.

Alex Williams???? Has always been an average player at best! would rather Ben Kiore or Connor Neil than that plank.

And you think this why? Blake has some young talent.... The guy got sent of last week for a completely reckless challenge and was lucky not to ruin the whole game for S.U. Youth

Did he ruin the game? No don't think so..... got the win didn't they? You can't rate a guy off one game, he could've played a unreal season and have 1 bad game and you critics say how bad he is

Mens squad looked alright against the youth could be a lot better but we will see how they will go this season

The men's team have a lot to work on in my opinion! Last season they relied a lot on Tom Jackson, if you look at this years squad you can't see a name that's going to be able to carry Southern like Jackson did. Watching them against the youth team they lacked a lot up top so I can see that being a huge problem for this years squad

A bit late with that news AW he is listed in a prior post as being part of the squad.

Well you wouldn't expect Fairfax to be up with the play.  Surprised the ODT missed out on getting in first [smack bottom for the media person at SU] as not listed in the ODT article on the squad last Saturday nor anything [on line anyway] since.

He's really not that great on the ball, shows how shark defenders are in Dunedin that Tyrell would be considered as "Someone who can play the ball out from the back"

Mobberly, Or is that someone else? Not sure.  Agree though, looked class but If he's playing left back could struggle to get minutes over Prattley unless Tristan is planning on playing a different position

Ben O'Farrells goal was one of the nicest goals I've ever seen by an Otago side. Goal Keeper to goal in about six seconds.

Sounds very direct?! Wouldn't think that type of football would be getting any praise on here - let alone being called "one of the nicest goals I've ever seen".

I think with new signings Sam Redwood and Tom McBride selection will be made even harder for Fridge.  The starting line-up is near impossible to pick.  If anything having injuries almost helps by making selection easier and from what I've heard Ross, Andy Ridden and Seamus aren't going to be playing this weekend.

Bearing that in mind and from me personally going off what I've seen this would be my team to start of with.

                           Batty

Connor        Joy         Jude         Prattley

Rodeka       Hogan     Kelly        McLennan

           McBride            French

I think that Ridden definitely has to play when fit along with Ryder, Ryder has bags of skill and Ridden is going to be key for Southern with his strength and ability.  Really want to see Sam Redwood get minutes as he looks extremely talented but would be hard to get him in the team.  Also haven't seen Mobberley or Ruka so that make things more interesting.  Also from what I've heard Alex Williams is awful and from watching Regan on Saturday the guy had multiple one on ones against Zane Green and hit it straight at him every time but I think he could be on his way back to good form and will contest a starting spot up front.

Surely Tristan plays CB with this Redwood character on the Left? And Connor is  Midfielder now.

Is McBride the same McBride who played for Tech previously? If so....

He could do, meaning he'd probably replace Jude.  Still not quite sold on Connor as a midfielder now, definitely can't see him in the centre if that's his desired spot.  It's the same Tom McBride that played for Tech yes.

Spoke to Fridge this morning, This is the team for the weekend. Seamus and Andy are good to go. After hearing how poor they looked against a team retiree's on Saturday and Tuesday, I hold little to no hope for this weekend. Where are the goals coming from? Mcbride has the athleticism but not didnt stand out in the southern league. I don't think French's bite is half as strong as his bark. Dont know much about Ruka?? I would like to see Kelly at 10.

Liam Whittaker threw it to Hamish Cotter who turned nicely and played an inch perfect ball, along the ground, that split the defence to an on running Ben O'Farrell, Ben O'Farrell had a look up on the outside of the box and chipped the keeper. That is so much different to pumping it over the top to someone with more pace then the defence and getting lucky against the keeper
