Here's how I think this will pan out:

We'll get overrun in midfield and won't be able to control any meaningful possession. Our backline will get forced deeper and deeper but our attackers won't drop back so there'll be acres of space in the middle of the park. We'll concede a few. As everyone tires and subs are made Oman will ease back on us, we'll have a couple of decent attacks late but ultimately lose 4-0 or so. Hudson will then talk about how there were promising signs and blah blah blah.

Oh yes....

Not far wrong tbh apart from the score

so apart from the most important thing to come out of a football game?

Hudson doesn't really care about results!

It is a friendly remember, It is these times that you give the younger players a go and see how they handle it.

Oman was always going to run rings around us as they had previously done to Australia and Japan But in those games they either lost or drew. Like the game this morning they dominated play but were woeful in front of goal.

The All Whites were lucky, I will take the win any day- But question marks around Hudson are still there. How is long-ball the "new" style.

The problem is that if your ranked 160 in the world then you can't get quality opposition and the only way to get up the rankings is to play and beat teams that are better than you. 160 is very low, even by NZ's standards. We're normally at about 90.

Also you need to install confidence and a winning culture in the team. Before hitting the world cup in 2010 we had our first win in Europe and a number of good results, we took that confidence into the tournament and got bloody close to leaving our group.

Yeah but Hudson stated we would be playing a new style. Oman hoofed the ball maybe 2 times and that was to switch play - The way they (Oman) played is the way we should have been playing - Ball on the ground passing. Our players are capable of doing it however its just not there. Maybe with so many new players being introduce into the squad Hudson tactics will never work until the very end when the World cup qualify start. By that time it maybe to late.

Well done Louis playing at left back! Considering no left foot that was rather amazing with Tom Doyle languishing on the sideline!

As I said prior to the match, we won despite Hudson.  Chris's goal was pure Leeds/decent level pro footie, nothing to do with NZF management.

Can someone that watched please do individual player ratings?? missed the game

Wood, Boxall, Cameron, Marinovich and Themi all played ok.   Interesting the Omani commentators said we missed a decent Midfielder in the shape of Ivan Vicelich ( translated by my missus who has no idea who he was during the game stream).

the makeshift back four did well and keep their shape to a degree. We did get pulled out (boxall esp as he was playing behind lewis) when our midfield got pulled apart. I think Wee Mac did well is a deeper midfield position and was the outlet in transition but CDM is not his position and we got bossed around by Oman who were more physical in the midfield.

For me Cameron was impressive at 18. Quick, direct and decisive. I just hope his injury isn't serious and he doesn't get scared off from playing international football in case his club football suffers.

I was honestly dissapointed by Thomas and Rojas. They were very selfish and weak on the ball. Rojas was isolated which isn't his fault but his option taking was naive. He can do things on the ball that most kiwis can't but the AWs are more often than not going to be playing counterpunch football which requires Rojas to bring other players into the game quicker and not resort to dribbling past players.

I preferred Cameron's style as it is much better suited to that of Chris Wood.

The first five minutes leading to the goal was the "style" Hudson was talking about. It worekd too. We gave them no time on the ball and when we had it we moved it quickly. It was when we lost of shape in midfield and resorted to long ball that Rojas etc started looking lost. So if we can plug the CDM with Reira and Bill, Keat etc - ie guys that actually play that position then we will look better.

It was apparently a minor niggle that would be exasperated by the flight, nz decided not to risk it and did not enforce a stand down.

Kosta also made an appearance in the HAL - his flight appeared to help with his injury.

Is it true we now have to wait until May next year for the next game? That's so stupidly far away

That's because there aren't any international windows until the OFC Nations Cup

Incorrect.

There is a FIFA international window 21 - 29 March 2016 with two match days:

http://es.fifa.com/mm/Document/WorldFootball/Calen...

OFC Nations Cup is 28 May  - 11 June 2016

NZF could also arrange friendlies in May outside any FIFA window (vs. Pacific Island teams / Asian teams?).

A-League Final is May 1 so all Wellington Phoenix players will be available for any friendlies or camps in May or earlier depending on when the Phoenix are eliminated.

The FIFA March 2016 window would see the Phoenix losing several players for two matches - 20 March home to Perth and 28 March away to Melbourne City. After that the Phoenix have just two more regular season games (April 2 and 10).

The last English Championship fixtures are on May 7 (Wood, Smith, Cameron, Tzanev) three weeks ahead of the OFC Nations Cup.

Last League 2 (Oxford Utd) fixtures are May 7 (Crocombe)

The last EPL fixtures are May 15 (Reid)

Last St Mirren fixture, Scottish Div. One is April 31 (Howieson)

Last Greek fixtures (PAS Giannina) April 16 (Tzimopoulos)

Last Dutch Eredivisie games are May 7 (Thomas)

The last Swiss fixtures are May 24 (Rojas)

The South African League finishes May 21 (Brockie, Boxall)

Last Unterhaching, Germany fixture is May 21 (Marinovic)

Scandinavian leagues start early April (Keat, Henderson)

Players available for All Whites friendlies in May:

Moss, Smeltz, Barbarouses, Doyle, Fenton, McGlinchey, Roux, Reid, Tzimopoulos, Thomas, Wood, Smith, Cameron, Howieson, Crocombe, Tzanev, Payne, Wynn, Brotherton, Hudson-Wihongi, Lewis
