5 Nepali footballers are now facing serious charges for world cup game fixing. If proved guilty, they may face lifetime imprisonment. In Nepal, anyone who is "causing or attempting to cause disorder with the intention of jeopardizing Nepal's sovereignty, integrity or national unity, shall be liable for life imprisonment". What do you think about this? Too harsh for a punishment?

That's the rules in their country and they knew the punishment before they committed the crime.

That doesn't make it okay

By the standards in our country, you are correct. By the standards in their country, it is absolutely ok.

If you don't like those standards, don't live there.

To say that laws are equivalent to "standards" is a stretch

You are using what you know of here in NZ to judge others by how they do things. This is the law in their country irrespective of what we do here.

Marijuana is legal in parts of the US but not here. Who is right? Us or the US? The death sentence is legal in parts of the US. Who is right? Us or the US.

That is the law in Nepal and they committed the crime knowing the law. They have no right to cry.

Yeah but we are judging it from our own perspective. So naturally we are allowed to think that it's a harsh punishment.

They're stupid for doing it in a country with such harsh penalties for the crime.
