Thought Cooper was a midfielder?

Name escapes me, but the NZ boy who just signed for a Italian 2nd Division team, is he still young enough?

I add Boyd in aswell.

Liam Graham will be too old, he was born in 1992. Wasn't selected for the last one at any rate, although he was around.

Grrr post not working... take 3

Can we add in local players as well.

Fenton, Boyd, Balsaj must all be likely, and i think Jesse Edge also would be a possibility.

Realise this...

Do we have a any NZ player no matter where they are from available list?? Seems pointelss looking at a possible squad when you neglect a whole bunch of players who would make it.

This thread is simply a list of players who are playing overseas and eligible for the U20 WC. At no point is there a suggestion that all of those in the list are good enough.

If the list of players who were eligible included NZ based players it'd go on for pages and pages.

you can scratch traunmuller off the list. nz football has no interest in him. roux/cooper are aussies now. de fries - not sure he is with fc basel anymore. not listed anywhere. tuiloma is playing as a forward apparently now.

How do you know that NZ has no interest in Traunmuller whereas last year Rickie Herbert has been in communication with him last year? Concerning Roux and Cooper they have no cap at australian senior level so they can still switch allegiance. At the end i heard that tuiloma has been playing everywhere(RB, right wing and even forward)

What option is more attractive to a duel nationality players.

Aussie - More games against higher level oppposition which is obviously good for development.

NZ - More likely to qualify for major tournaments (thus potentially get noticed by overseas scouts).

Would be an interesting call.

Cooper would be highly unlikely. He has been involved in the Aussie youth sides, even captaining the u17s. I could only see him changing to NZ in his mid/late 20's if Aussie haven't capped him.

Roux hasn't been in any of the age group sides, so might be more open to playing for us.

Roux is more likely especially with him playing fullback position

A dashing full-back Storm Roux is comfortable on both sides of the defence. Entering his second season with Glory Youth, Roux is also gives the squad flexibility to push forward as a winger when needed.

Winston would have been great for Denmark and he's playing for us now (when his club lets him) NZ is far more an attractive option than it use to be and we need to capitalise on that at an early age as well.

Anyone have a considered view on this, in terms of pathway options? More scouts more regularly doing the rounds in Aussie than NZ; but once every 2 year showcase opportunity for the NZ kids.

only surprise on milicich list is rhys jordan who hasn't been selected. Del Moro and rahan ali are still very young and eligible for the u17 while doris is only playing for a reserve 3rd division scottish team so not good enough to get noticed. At the end, mckendry and cooper won't switch allegiance before senior level if they are good enough at that time for the aw's

Anyone have any news on any players eligible for the 2017 U20 world cup?

I have a few:

Henry Cameron - Blackpool FC (Born 1997)

Dylan Burns - Nottingham Forest FC (Born Jan 1997)

Michael Woud - Sunderland FC (Born 1999)

Hunter Ashworth - Pateadores FC and University of San Francisco (Born 1998)

Anymore? thats all could think off the top of my head.

Below is a story of a player I once played with who is supposedly at Gillingham, but I can't confirm this as I am unsure on whether or not he has a contract or not.

Unreliable source:

Matt Blackmore (Born 1997) - Gillingham FC

I played football with Matt Blackmore at Glenfield Rovers in the U19s in 2014. I am friends with him on Facebook, and in 2015, I was asking around where players had gone and that as it was a new squad in the U19s, and when I asked where Matt Blackmore went, a lot of people were saying "He's gone to Brentford". So I continually checked Brentford's youth side on their website but there was no mention of him. A few months past on his slightly in-active Facebook and then all of a sudden he updated his cover photo. It was a picture of the Gillingham FC youth side with him wearing a Gillingham kit. I checked the website on their Academy and development squad and there is no mention of him. Development squad page is "Under construction" and I tried messaging him on Facebook, but there isn't much of a response as he doesn't really go on it.

It doesn't surprise me if its true, how he got this gig to go overseas, I mean he is a very good player, we played Western Springs U19s and my coach said that Neil Emblem was really interested in him. I know he went with Westlake Boys on an overseas Europe trip and they played some sides in England and Spain, so he probably was spotted there, but at this time, I can't confirm whether he has a solid youth contract or not as all I have seen is just a photo.

As above, plus... plenty of 97s doing well at US colleges; plus ...98/99 kids who missed out for one reason or another but kick on; plus kids we don't even know yet. Is the NZF worldwide radar stronger now with Hudson on board? U17 coaches to be retained, or not, for U20, or stay at U17, or not, as they are schoolboy coaches?

Some Google detective work suggests he is at the football academy at Canterbury High School, Kent which is run in association with Gillingham FC. If he's probably only recently turned 18 then that makes sense.

This is different to the actual "Gillingham FC Academy" side which is the official youth team whose fixtures are on the website.

He's mentioned in this match report:

Thanks Big Pete,

He is an exceptional player in my opinion, very skillful and was the heart and soul of our midfield in 2014.

Hopefully he can get a youth contract with Gillingham.
