Why when they have Lewis Jackson?

Maybe Because they have only scored 6 goals all season?

Is it time for the yellow fever to offer Lewis Jackson a Phoenix scholarship? A lar the Rojas punt? I would say if he can keep scoring at the senior level for a struggling side. He would flourish in a professional good service environment.

No longer exists. Ernie didn't want it.

And they really have less need for it given the Phoenix now have the ASB Prem side for 18-20 year olds and a Youth League side for the younger bracket.

Not saying he doesn't deserve one (probably does), but the pathway is there.

I read in the ODT his older brother (Tom I think his name is), trialed for the Nix, hope Lewis has a go too, I guess a handful of goals in the next few games would help his chances.

Looking at the Canty squad the only forward that has not had game time at the ASB Prem level is Dan Ede, recently back to training recently after injury and Boon Ozawa from the youth squad.

When does the transfer season close? Is it today?

It's an absolute joke! The kid is that much better than any other striker in the team! I mean he finished second top goal scorer in the league only behind his brother Tom Jackson! He's proven that he can preform at that level, Regan is well past his time and looks sluggish and unfit definitely shouldn't be in the squad and Sam French has started all 11 games and is yet to score a goal? That's not good enough for a player who usually is playing up front by himself. I can see Lewis jacksonabsolutely dominating Dunedin league this year he's that nice.

Wow. He is a young kid and to think he should be playing every week is naive. Dunedin league is a big step below ASB Prem.

Maybe if you come and watch the games, at least at home, then you would see that the problems lie much deeper than not playing Lewis.

And today definitely wasn't the day for him.

Sad to see Southern United struggling so badly.

Looked back over the past two seasons and their playing record in the last 23 matches shows just two wins, a draw, and 20 defeats.

I'm not sure how that compares with YoungHeart Manawatu during their worst run but it must be rivalling it closely.

The current squad has a number of players with plenty of ASB Premiership experience but there seems to be a lack of cohesion.

If Tristant Prattley played today it would've been his 100th ASB Premiership career appearance incorporating his time with Otago United and Waitakere United.

In Youngheart Manawatu's last 3 seasons (42 games) they won 3 drew 4 and lost 35, Southern's last 3 seasons (including this one) they have played 41 won 7 drew 2 and lost 32

The big difference is in their ASB Premiership / NZFC time of 9 seasons Youngheart Manawatu finished 2nd twice and 3rd once.

Southern United \ Otago United  have been in the premiership for all 11 seasons and the best they have done is 5th on 2 occasions, usually 2nd last has been their spot

Did some digging, a YHM's last 23 games in the League had a record of 2-2-19 vs Sthns 2-1-20.

Suffice to say, if Southern had a another ASBP club 90 minutes south of them and another 2 hours north of them like Manawatu did, they could be in trouble.

Geographic spread is important though. The league realistically needs a Southern side in it. That's not an excuse for performance though, just a reason why they, somehow, need to get it right and quickly. How to fix that is beyond me.

YoungHeart Manawatu also finished third at the OFC Club Championships in 2006, ten years ago.

Amazing to think they had players like Benjamin Totori, Commins Menapi, Alick Maemae and Andy Boyens.

It's going to be interesting to see how Mosgiel go this season. Cody brooks who was a stand out every game I watched will not be playing also Hamish Cotter has left the squad for the year. I predict Mosgiel to finish 4th behind Caversham, Dunedin Tech and Roslyn.

If we're going to talk players who should have come on earlier on Sunday surely Hamish Cotter is top of the list. Ridden was having a shocker in midfield and Hayman is not on Cotters level at right back. Good to see there was at least some justice as he got the captains armband, I think that he probably did enough to be named 'skip' for next week too.

Will be interesting, I don't think Tech will be anywhere near the top two this year though, they have lost eight first teamers and don't have much depth

Mosgiel will be better off without Cody if this is the case, a very greedy player, Cotter is an unfortunate lost but as illustrated against Caversham & Tech in the second & third rounds isn't really up to playing top teams

French to Caversham confirmed along with Rodeka. Losses of Ryder and Jackson don't look so big now.

Tech losing Howard, McClennan, McCormick, Flaws, Burgess, Joy.

Mosgiel have lost Cotter, Brook and Franchini.

If French stays fit he will score a lot of goals for Cavy - I venture to suggest he and Lewis will be the top scorers in the league.  He is not Premiership quality but is the perfect sort of player for the FSPL.  He will get quality delivery and will be scoring for fun.  Well that's what I think.

What are you on?  He comes on in the 90th minute and is next week's captain having accumulated a massive 16 minutes this season?  He got to wear the armband cos he replaced Moss - and that's all.  Having said that I'm in full agreement that he should have got on earlier.  In fact I think he should be starting - likely he will since next game since Stu Kelly is suspended.

Caversham tend to play 4-3-3. I dont see Tim dropping Jackson to play French up top, i would say Cavershams front 3 will be Collier, Jackson and Rodeka

You make a good point.  But you don't see Harley being key in the mid three since Moss is leaving?  And also, a guy like French will have  got guarantees from Tim that he will be starting.

I'm looking forward information on the new team of Daylight FC. Are they are merger of two clubs or a brand new club altogether?

They are a band of players from Christchurch that don't feel young enough to play MPL [and be in the top two] but are too good for Div1 in Chch.

I hear [or start a rumor] an SU keeper is looking to play for a Chch team and this will save travel time for at least one player.

Don't be so stupid, better off without Cody? do you also think they would have been better off with out the 13 goals he scored in the PL last season as well.  I can't believe the ignorance.  "A very greedy player", He should probably take that as a compliment if you ask me, the best players in the league or even in new zealand football have greed.  Greed in football terms is postive esspecailly for attacking players, just means they have strong desire for what the want and for some what they deserve.  So if Cody seeks goals and is hungry for glory and gets it then their should be no arguement.  How do you think McGarry made it too where he is today?! I'm sure he wasn't thinking about how greedy he was being when he was scoring a Hat-trick against his former club in the weekend.

It's not confirmed that Mosgiel have lost Brook and Franchini, Brook may play with his bad knees and Mosgiel is confident Eder will make a return back after his time up North after the ASB season.  Mosgiel will be pleased with luring 2 new players over from G.I. - Cam McPhail and Connor Neil, this is good cover for Cotter and in general bulsters the squad depth.

So these two players are bullies but not much chop at football?

Or do you mean Bolster as in they may be able to kick a ball and not the opponent?
