which player would this be AW? Spill the beans... My mail is the coach has been chasing just about every player in the region promising all sorts, perhaps this is where cash debate stems from??

It will be interesting to see how shawn o'brien goes! Whether he has the goods or was it the fact he were playing for the best team?

I think he got a bit of a shock when he realised he wasn't valued by Canterbury as much as he valued himself!

This is very true. So guessing coastal agreed to do what Canterbury didn't and pay him what he wanted? No one at this level or even Canterbury level should be getting paid! In any shape or form whether it be petrol money paying rent the endless list goes on.

this is how some clubs use the excuse that they dont pay players to " play ". Imo its shark, nothing more nothing less! Can you honestly tell me Tech for example keep attracting quality players to the club that are not being paid?? Or perhaps its the " outstanding " level of coaching

agreed with what your saying! Easy to win when have best players available so don't think it so much to do with coaching

Some players do change club due to perceived differences in coaching levels. Normally this occurs in junior/youth levels.

so when it happens at senior levels especially with players good enough to stay where they currently are its not just about money, if its not coaching? Despite what some will say I stand by my point that some clubs definitely are " paying " players

Having the strongest squad on paper brings its own set of challenges for the coaching staff. I don't believe Bays and Cash Tech MPL title wins can be simply assigned as we have bought in these players at x $ and it's job done. It also could be seen as demeaning to those players/staff involved.

as an example Mr O Brien leaves a club that has virtually won all there is, looks set to win another title if history is to go by and is a consistent starter yet chooses to leave. If not about money it surely cannot be about better standard of coaching, porkies have to be doing the rounds big time!

You may say its demeaning to the players and coaching staff, but its the plain and simple truth! You cannot tell me that the teams that have won the MPL title over the course of the past 5-6 years have done so due to the level of coaching! If so why do we not have a local coach as the head coach of Canterbury United in the recent past??? There obviously is no one capable locally, any Tom dick or harry could coach a side like bays or tech's winning sides. That may seem harsh but its fact

I disagree that it's the plain and simple truth. As depressing and frustrating as it is to see Coastal players leave due to us refusing to pay them whilst the league(s) are Amatuer (and yes it's happened again this offseason) the overriding reason we haven't won the MPL is we have not played at our highest level consistently enough. Throwing stones at Bay$ or Ca$h-Tech (think I got those old YF spellings correct) especially in a public forum is never going to bridge the gap.

Again I don't feel there is a demonstrably different level of coaching but certainly differing 'styles'. For instance I like L Padmore whose side is Div1 and K Monsef who isn't coaching MPL at all (Fulltime). But this preference of mine does not mean 'better' than J Brown or T Ivanov or whoever...

We don't have a local Dragons coach as no local coach  applied for it. (Stand to be corrected on this IIRC YMMV etc)

From what I heard watching western uni game on weekend is it is their keeper ( uni's ) from last season. Sounded as though he has been offered the starting spot at coastal which was something the uni coach would not do. Young kid they had on the weekend looks solid and believe he played a number of games last season so don't think they will miss much

No question mark required, it's definitely happening. Be good to see him back in the MPL. Just means instead of winning the league by 10 points they'll probably win by 16 points instead

Just wants to play a couple or 3 games with/for mates.

O yes and win a Chatham Cup, not going to do that playing a few cup games for a Welly team.

Agree with you foal30 about Coastal not playing consistently enough, still find it staggering that they have not strung together more that three wins on the bounce and longest unbeaten run is five games since playing in the MPL in 2011. Will the Coastal Way change these stats.

If Timtam's is on the mark with his earlier posting and with Pieter TB now moving from Universities to Coastal does this mean Eddie Ashton has been deposed as starting keeper.
