How boring would that be though? Go to celebrate a goal, but have to wait 5mins to check it first. Takes away the pure immediate joy of a goal (ie probably the best thing about football) and turns it into a robotic process.

that isn't exactly the norm though. 99.999% of the time a goal is called straight away. So do you turn all goals into a boring, robotic process just because the referee took a little time and made wrong decision in 0.001% of goals?

I just hate seeing teams knocked out of cup competitions, or tournaments like this (3-6 group games where pretty much every goal makes a difference) because of officiating mistakes. I agree with what you're saying about it shouldn't be robotic and boring, but IMO the outcome football games should be determined by whoever legally puts the ball in the back of the net the most, and not by mistakes like this that could easily be avoided by a simple video replay.
I do always enjoy these debates with you. Because we have clearly differing points of view, but neither of us are wrong. We just place different importances on different aspects of the game.

He gets so much undue criticism for his performances for Argentina, despite them being nearly always good, because scrubs like Higuain and Palacio (why was he called up again?) couldn't do shark at the 2014 Final. Feel sorry for Argentina - three major finals lost in 3 consecutive years. You get the feeling that the World Cup 2018 is Messi's last chance to win something with the national team.
Impressive from Chile though - after not having won the Copa America until 2015, they've now won two in a row. Other than the Argies, I think they're the only non-European team with a genuine chance to win the next World Cup.

I hope that Messi reconsiders but he may not.
He's very independently-minded and naturally aloof, apparently something of an enigma even to friends and family.
