New Plymouth Rangers joined the western premiership this season( league below fed league) for the Manawatu/Wanganui and Taranaki area. First taranaki  club side to do so for a long time (due to travel i think puts naki clubs off). So far they are top of the league with a goal difference of +60 so id say they very well could compete in the fed league.

But that's not the point - the point is that they could if they were good enough. Which is why I asked about the terms of TT's participation in the Federation league - if part of those terms is that clubs from Taranaki forego any pretension towards participating in the Central League, then that would open the door for TT. But it seems a fairly forced way of doing it.

Is it a means if sharing the burden of costs across all clubs? I don't know if there is any arrangement of that sort in place with clubs in the are. I guess there must be some form of understanding.

Yes it is possible for a team from the area to participate. But to actually compete is a big ask for an area with little football pedigree.

No, at the moment they need 9 more points

Team Taranaki won the Central federation league today (with a 5-0 win over 2nd place Havelock North Wanderers) so they will be in the playoff with most probably Wharfies

Incorrect. But recheck the table and you might be closer this week.  What will wharfies be doing to face this rather unknown identity of tt??? How will they ensure they get the promo they so desperately want.

Aye when I wrote that I didn't realise there was a split into top and bottom 4 and 4 extra games.

but given Team Taranaki have beaten their closest rivals, Havelock North Wanderers 5-0 & 9-0 in the last 2 weeks it would be very surprising if they didn't win it from here

I understand that NP Rangers are largely made up of the best TT players so that would explain their dominance in that league. Yes that means they can play for both teams whenever they like if logistically possible. The top 4/bottom 4 split happens solely because you aren't allowed to have a league with only 14 games and with travel costs being the major hurdle for the CR clubs they opt for that rather than a whole extra round. While I'm neither for or against the TT concept playing in CL I do sympathise with the CR clubs a bit. They generally have to travel a lot, costs are massive if they want to play CF/CL and funding/sponsorship can be tough in these areas (maybe all areas to be fair). Once they form into a regional team AKA "Team Taranaki" they automatically get more buy in from sponsors and apparently the funding becomes more available. I think if they changed the rule around playing for home based clubs (and they only played for TT) meaning they would basically be a club with a funny name I would be okay with it.

Which is essentially how Wairarapa United started yeah. Is now developing into a 'proper club' and nobody complains.

The Naki thing is pretty lame insofar as - as you point out - they are playing for multiple clubs at once.

Isn't there a Naki team in the womens' central league? What's the difference?

TT players can't play for club and TT in same week. They generally just play cup for club (TT aint eligible)

From what i have gathered and seen, the New Plymouth Rangers "1st" team that plays in the western prem has had only one team taranaki player in the squad this season. Rumour has it that when it came to the chatham cup and regional fed cup competition the NP "1st" team (west prem) played the fed cup and their reserves side teamed up with team naki players signed under the club (for their one appearance) to compete in the chatham cup against PNMarist.

Okay sorry looks like I might have been misinformed a bit about that detail. That makes it a little more exceptable for me but they might as well just have TT as their sole club in that case. No one is gaining a lot from that set up

Exactly, like Smithy lauded too with Rapa united.  But the problem with TT is (and i could be completely wrong) can't they call up any player from any club in taranaki? so along as the player is signed to a club they can play for TT? Gives them a pretty big pool of players to choose from

Think ill crack a beer and watch this thread now and again. Loving the 'quotes', 'hearsay', 'knowledge (and lack of it)', and 'opinions'.

Some facts though.  We look to have 2 league winners (pretty clear cut). We have a playoff system. We will see 2 great playoff games. There will be a new side in the CL and either side can definitely be a competitive outfit in the CL.

Another fact - one of the league winners is not a club.

And "we will see 2 great playoff games" is almost certainly the opposite of a fact. I've seen a lot of CL promo/relo games in my time and not a single one of them has been "great".

All we need now is a player eligibility problem (conspiracy) for one of the winners during the season swung out, to make them think the travel cost is to high to take up a place in CL if they win the play offs. So decline the opportunity  LOL

My captain obvious post aside - how does people discussing a topic make them clowns?

It's a clear grey area, and an interesting topic to discuss. If you have any further information, then please feel free to share it. But slagging people off for their opinions or thoughts while offering none of your own just makes you look like a clown, not everybody else.

That was more directed toward 4stars than you. But the context of your post implied certain things, so backing down and claiming you were speaking generally is amusing.

I clearly posted that before Feverish posted, and so had you. So not sure what your point is...

Anyway clearly this discussion over TTs eligibility has hit a nerve with you, and you're going to insult anyone who dares to carry it on - so guess that is another interesting discussion shut down by a troll.
