Few results still to come in. Been a great season. Well done Amigos.
Capital 8
Yeah clearly the best team and capable of playing a number of divisions higher. Pretty dismal end to the season for us again after a promising middle period. We had a little run mid way through where we got up to 5th playing well, won a few games and went over 4 hours of football without conceding at one point which was a nice feeling personally in goal but then it fell apart towards the end and we ended up in the bottom 3 for the 3rd year in a row in this division.
Almost wish the physio hadn't given me the green light to return for the last 2 games, they were not very enjoyable. Saturday in particular was pretty unpleasant in goal in those conditions and on that mud bath. Anyway, was still a nice team to be part of with half a new squad this season.
Ah no way! You were the goalie! How crazy were the conditions! I was the forward in the first half who jumped into goal. Good game though mate.
That mud couldn't have been good on your injury...
Ankle was actually fine after that but done something to the wrist now! Was fudgeing freezing. First time I've ever kept a beanie on for a game. Had it on in the warm up and there didn't seem to be any point in removing it when it was time to start.

Barons are in again this year. What about everyone else?
Looks like it's going to be a great season! Stoked that we got 10 teams this year.
Hi guys, looking for a striker to complete our squad. Anyone interested? We have a game at 1pm at Wellington College tomorrow if you want to come and try out.
Still need someone? Might have someone keen.
Yep we are now looking for two players. Let me know if you have someone.
3-1 defeat to Rampage yesterday. Team a big old lads who love a good ball into the box. Think the 4 x 20 min format suited them. Should be a good match up when we face them in the league.
Hey mate, thanks for your message, something wrong with the reply function. Can you email me at [email protected].
Cool, have emailed you.
Crap result for the Barons first up, 2-4 defeat to the Cycles. We played really well in patches of the game and dominated, but the Cycles made it count at the right time. was something like 6 shots from them with 4 goals scored. Good game from both sides.
Our game was cancelled at the weekend but BaronGoneAWOL managed to organise a friendly. Solid 5-1 win over the Honeybadgers despite being 1-0 down at halftime - now looking forward to the rematch on Friday!
Western Suburbs should be ashamed of themselves. Disgusting behaviour, disgusting refereeing. Not what I expect from the team cantering to a promotion.
?
Context please.

What happened mate? Found them to be a decent bunch when we played them a few weeks ago.

Ref handing out reds like candy for literally nothing, giving second yellows when a first was never given. Taking dives at every opportunity. Combination of poor sportsmanship and straight up cheating.
They got away with a 2-1 win.
You had cards in Cap 8??!
who rocks up to ref a social game with cards?
You had cards in Cap 8??!
Yup, Wests had their own ref. I collected a red for putting my hand on a dudes chest to stop him approaching me while we were having words. He started flailing like I'd Sparta kicked him in the face and ref pulled a red. Acted like a condescending prick all game too. He also ignored their player picking up the ball inside the box and throwing it out of play while the game was still going.
They weren't even good! Couple of tidy wingers, a good holding midfield and fudge all else. Their defense was a shambles, dunno how we only got one. They did do a good job of keeping the ball but didn't do a whole lot with it.
In actual fact apart from the diving they weren't bad guys. Ref ruined the game though, half of our team were ready to walk off the pitch in protest.
A lot of teams are glad that Wests team is out of our grade (cap 9), that's for sure.

Someone who has decided to use them before a game. Total of 6 cards given out for a game that needed one yellow at most. Just needed to level headed refereeing and everyone would have had a great time.

two sides to every story I'm sure. In saying that, they rolled through our division maybe 5 or 6 years ago (div 7 or 8?), the first time they dropped to a way too low division and steamrolled their way up the leagues. They beat us 14 nil and celebrated the 10th goal like they'd won the league. I hear they got to div 3 and didn't win the div for the first time in years (2nd place maybe) so decided they'd do it all over again. ludicrous
I played in the game for Wests. The ref was overzealous with the cards but it all stemmed from what he saw with the first one. I guess if you raise your hands against another player then you give the ref the opportunity to see what he sees. He decided it was aggressive and sent the guy off and then most of the rest of the cards were for the abuse he continued to cop throughout the rest of the game. Nobody needs to turn up on a Saturday to get sworn at for 90 minutes.
Let's also clarify that we did allow you lads to play on with 11 for the rest of the game. I personally didn't see or hear much of what was going on. From my position at left back it was an enjoyable game and I don't know what all the niggle was about.
Also, on the whole dropping out of Cap 3 thing. That was only half our team. We came 2nd in Cap 3 but half our team was 2nd team boys and so us older guys pulled the pin as we wanted to keep the older fellas in there. Unfortunately the club didn't then have enough young fellas to fill the Cap 2 team which they'd assured us they would when we pulled out.
We never wanted to re-enter at Cap 10 but that was all we could get.
Turning up to ref a game in Cap 8 with yellow/red cards in your pocket is still a bizarre thing to do.
Patrick can't even remember his when he is officially appointed to Cap 4.

I was the first red. I barely touched the guy and he made an absolute meal of it. It wasn't aggressive, I was trying to go back to my position to defend the freekick he had just gifted you. I shouldn't have raised my hand and I certainly shouldn't have touched the guy, but the ref shouldn't be allowed near a football pitch ever again. One of the most blatantly biased referees I've ever seen, we had players walking off the pitch and refusing to play with him as ref, you can't explain that away as "stemming from the first card" because he got worse and worse as the game went on. At least there was a reasonable level of justification for my card, most of his calls were simply unbelievable.
You allowed us to play with 11 because you had no choice under the Cap 8 rules (from my understanding).
You had a defender get away with shoving one of our players worse than I did. He also picked up the ball in his own penalty area while the play was live. You guys were awarded a free kick and the ref admitted he had no justification for the free kick after the game. Our right back received a yellow card, immediately followed by a red despite no first yellow being issued.
I had no issue with you guys as people but if a jumped up arrogant fudge like that is going to ruin a game like that then he's going to cop all the abuse he deserves.
I have no issue with the dropping down personally. It was a tight game, although you were certainly the better team but I think with the players you had you'll settle somewhere around Cap 5 or 6. I assume you also had a few academy players running around out there? Keeper looked dodgy as hell but the rest of the kids were tidy.

I'm ok with it. cards gives some authority to the ref which can be a pretty hard thing to attain in the lower grades. the lack of respect for referees is the bane of social football in my view. that being said, cards are not necessary if the ref is confident and gives warnings or whatever.

Curious. I can't see anything in the Capital Football senior regulations that say this.
more like unwritten social football convention, rather than actual regulation.
That makes more sense.
In 6 years of football between Cap 5-8 I've never seen a red card take a team to 10 men. Usually an enforced substitution, no matter the offense.

You may be playing down your part a bit there champ. Our guy said it wasn't just barely a touch and it was enough for our bench to get up and almost charge on the pitch. But let's not let that get in the way of your story of injustice.
After that some of your lads just wouldn't stop moaning and abusing him, but again let's not let that get in the way of your story.
The real travesty here is that it's taken the attention away from my goal which was a stunner and what all the fans should have been talking about.
How is it fun for you playing 5+ divisions lower than you should be?
