Not sure how I feel about this, he had a year on his contract with the Nix and we let him go because he didn't want to play professional anymore. Sure City isn't same level but still pretty professional level.

Then on other side if he isn't really committed to all that training and playing for he Nix, better he left when he did as it gave us time to sign other players.

I thought it was well known at the time that he was going to Auckland. I remember reading the day after the announcement that few was returning to Auckland and is still keen to represent New Zealand

Yeah. I thought it was pretty clear he was gonna play ASBP. While ACFC are a very well run outfit, still won't train as much, or as intense, as the Phoenix. Less travel. Less time away.

Does it seem weird to anyone else that he would want to step back from the Nix but step up to international football?

No, the international schedule is negligible, acfc and all white player is probably the best gig in the world if you want to play amateur football. You get amateur games week in week out with less training but these huge profile glory games that you'll never get in the Spanish fourth tier.

think that's a fair assessment, but it still grates. he was contracted to the nix for another year, should have seen it out.

If he genuinely didn't think his body was up to it I'm happy with him leaving the Nix, for both his own good and the good of the club.

You are right. He probably could have just chucked it in and retired. But the culture at A.C. is pretty good and Ramon would have tugged at the heart strings. I'm glad he's in the SSP.  Yet another player to watch and for youth players to learn from. The fact that he may be eligible for the AWs is another interesting twist. From a cold hearted practical point of view it is always great to have guys playing for the AWs that are NZ based and used to Island conditions. Sometimes the overseas pros don't make it to the qualifying games. Reira will definitely be one to watch this year.
