Second pic was notable to me as the biggest 'error' - it's Dyer on the ball and Bevan making the run. Bevan remonstrated afterwards.
New Zealand Men's U-20s
We were utter crap. Also noticed that Embers was there helping out. With him there I would have expected better but how much influence does Hudson have on this team?
None of the guys who played in that game should be part of the AWs next month yet we know the likes of Dyer will be there ahead of the of James etc.
Only players worth their salt were Woud and Ingham. Think they will both become decent AWs in the future.
The others well, just backed up what we all thought. People rated Bevan but I thought he was rubbish too, spent more time moaning to the ref and swearing at the camera then playing football.
This has to be the weakest squad we've had at this level for some time.
You noticed that the team's assistant coach was there?
At this stage, Dyer over 'the likes of James' in the AWs is down to contact time.
I think the attackers/midfielders in this squad are better than the ones last time, on the whole (BT probably greater than any single MFer this time). But defenders a big drop off - and without them being able to bring the ball out (remember, BT even got moved back there for this purpose in 2015) it leads to the aimless hoofing.
Will be a while before the 2013 crop is topped, but they're not bad. A couple of personnel changes and a bit more composure, and they're fine.
I was unaware that Embers was there. Contact time means squat if the player getting contact time is shark.
You defend some of our poor results/selections/Hudson a bit. Are you sure your not Anfony?
Dane Ingham had way too many "I'm the man" moments, where instead of getting the ball into the box, he would kick it past his man and try to chase it down, failing every time. I'm all for getting to the byline then pulling it back, but boy. Bevan did a lot of good work feeding off scraps, Rogerson was bright when off the bench. Cameron a good instigator in the second half, Woud good in goal. Everyone else meh - the failure to be calm in the first half, largely created by the failure to build from the back, did them in. Second half was much better, a lot more building through the WBs. Having someone comfortable on the ball under pressure in deep CM would help them play out too - a Singh or McGarry. Same shark different tournament in terms of a rough start though, no need to fudgeing destroy everything because they had one bad half - replicate the output of the second half for another 45 and they get a pretty solid performance - you're not going to shake your head at 26 shots, 6 on target (though of course you'd like that second figure to be higher). Up to the players now v Honduras, and on the coaching staff to register that the midfield combination wasn't working.
Perhaps they needed more time to prepare... a few more games against quality opposition so they wouldn't look like deers in the headlights through the first 45 : )
Actually Ingham was not the only one guilty of putting their head down and trying to dribble through a crowded defense. Imre??? and Billington both had "look at me I'm Messi" moments.
This sort of stuff should be sorted out easily by the coach. There were plenty of passing options throughout this match but players need to get their head up. The lack of composure by NZ players is an on going problem. Somewhere in our DNA is this need to just get the ball foward...quickly

There's a difference between dribbling, and kicking the ball forward and running after it.

Just pushing back against hyperbolic rubbish like 'none of the guys' should be AWs - have you ever watched Clayton Lewis for example play for Auckland City, or for that matter, for the AWs?
"Contact time means squat if the player getting contact time is shark." - you bet, I agree. But it's clearly why Dyer gets picked over guys who aren't familiar with what Hudson wants, so there's no point arguing on any other premise.

When is the next game? France? I can't find the timetable for when they're on

Don't get me wrong - I think NZF has to look at how successful the Wanderers concept seems to have been and then at this lot and have a deep think. But it's not that easy.

Next game is tonight, 11pm v Honduras. Win, and they're going to be close to through. Anything else, nada.
Hope we win
Hey Patrick, any chance of putting a link up for the game tonight? Something that I just have to click on as I'm a technology retard living in Singapore with no sky t.v.
Cheers in advance
Tonight's line up- ACCORDING TO SBS AUSTRALIA
youtube live stream
WELL WELL WELL
MYER BEVAN
FUCKIN HELL
Any working streams? The one posted by RR for the Vietnam game worked well. But the youtube one hasn't.
Goal! New Zealand U20 1, Honduras U20 0. Myer Bevan (New Zealand U20) right footed shot from the right side of the box to the top right corner. Assisted by Joe Bell following a fast break
Not too sure; but if you were 50 seconds late trying to watch one, you'd be out of luck, Bevan scores off the crossbar inside the first minute. Scenes.
Cracking finish... hopefully it encourages our boys to try and play.
What an outrageous start. Hopefully our lads can keep going full throttle.
How was he not offside? Maybe I missed an angle but he wasn't in his own half when the ball was played and there was no defender behind him?
Its a different team tonight... still a bit of hoof ball, but we have looked to keep possession by playing back and out. Much better!
Anyone in Oz with a stream?
Anyone anywhere with a stream?
Billingsley is still a donkey and how he makes the squad let alone starts is beyond me.
Nice header, well done Hunter!
Well, Ashworth's certainly better with his head than he is with his feet. That header was beautiful, knew exactly what he was doing. 2-0!!!!
ARRGH!
Didn't watch the first game, was expecting us to be terrible based on comments... pleasantly surprised so far (long way to go though!).
YES GET IN NZ!!!
We must be having an anti-jinx effect Global Game!
It's a weird watch, but it's something...
