I understand most of the lower level Premier League teams taking a punt on Wood, but Burnley? I guess they play with a lot of width, with Robbie Brady and Matt Lowton good at swinging the ball in. But they do have Sam Vokes to get on the end of the crosses, and he's one of the better target men in the league, especially if you just want an old-fashioned, hold-up-the-ball type. I just can't imagine Vokes and Wood as a pairing. I would have thought Burnley would have been more wanting to replace Andre Gray, a super quick, fox-in-the-box type of player.

Oh well, will just have to see how it goes. Great that he's in the Premiership though, he's earned the chance.

Is there a chance Burnley see him as an upgrade on Vokes? His record to date suggests he's slightly better, and he's also just entering his prime, versus halfway through it like Vokes is.

I thought many on here did not see Wood as a typical target man.

This

Training ground injury(slight) forces Wood out of Oceania playoff...cough! cough!!

Can't see Burnley being happy about shelling out $25 million for a player and then seeing him fly for thirty+ hours, to be kicked to bits in a tinpot playoff at the arse end of the world. LOL  Especially as they will be desperate to make a good start in the EPL

As for Wood himself...sure he would love to play. But he has worked his arse off for all these years and finally gets the big breakthrough. i would not blame him for a second if he pulled out. If NZ can't beat the Solomon ferkin Islands without him, then WE DO NOT deserve to go through.

He will prob just play the home match and fly back to the UK, We could call up Brockie as a replacement for the away match.

I wonder Hudson is going to take this. Losing Smith, then Reid and most likely Wood.

He isn't, but a lot of other people don't actually watch him play and assume big striker = target man. Anthony Hudson also seems to be one of them.

The comment by Leeds coach "When one player doesn't want to stay, there is nothing I can do. I only want players who are 100 percent with the team," is a cock of a statement I think. Its not like he's leaving them to play for Derby County FFS, its the Premier League.

That's a pretty standard comment for a coach who is about to lose an important player. At least Wood fronted up and explained why he didn't want to take the field in his last game for Leeds as opposed to other players who stop training and turning up for games and send in "medical certificates" (it's happening a lot in Italy at the moment).

Although I still think Wood should have made himself available, unless he was signing the contract that same night.

Silly of Wood to take a step down in his career from the championship to the Premier league. What was he thinking.

They might be but they've been rubbish for a long time. I'd say that as a 25yo professional who has worked his butt off to get where he is, Chris Wood is entitled to sign for whoever he wants to. And hopefully he scores plenty of goals for Burnley and any other team he plays for in the future. He's had a great career so far and long may it continue

Yeah but what good does that do you when you're floundering in the 2nd division having your best players bought off you every year?

Its all well and good to say "But muh big club", but it doesn't mean shark if you aren't playing in the Premier League.

A few comparisons:

Leeds have had average attendances of between 21,000 and 40,000 across the top three tiers over the past 20 years. Burnley between 10,000 and 20,000 across the same divisions (http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn... http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn...

Leeds have won a few more big trophies, and done so more recently (https://www.11v11.com/teams/leeds-united/tab/honou... https://www.11v11.com/teams/burnley/tab/honours/)

By virtue of being a Prem team, however, Burnley are valued at over double Leeds (https://www.transfermarkt.com/leeds-united/startse... https://www.transfermarkt.com/fc-burnley/startseit...)

I would opt for a currently more successful club over a historically bigger one, as would most footballers.

English football fans are wank, maybe if they hadnt spent 3/4 of his stay at leeds slagging him off chris would be more inclined to have stayed.

That was a small vocal minority.  No different to many of us Nix fans on this forum.

It's clear as day he went for the money and the chance of a Prem gig.  If we (Leeds) gain promotion this season, the club would buy in players greater then Wood like happened at Leicester.

Don't forget Leeds has been run into the ground by dodgy owners since 2000. Had Peter Ridsdale, Ken Bates, GFH Capital and Massimo Cellinio never touched the club, we would never have got into relegated out of the Premiership and Championship and experienced the financial irregularities we've had to put up with in bucket loads.

The reason leeds fans snagged him off I'd because he missed an unbelievable amount of sitters and apart from the tap ins that he scores, his all round game is absolute garbage.

Chris Wood will be dreading this. He left after ruling himself out of his last game for Leeds. people would've remembered his season that he had for Leeds but he burnt all his bridges by doing this. I'm a Leeds fan but i've never liked Chris Wood, i think he is a tremendously over rated oaf and he couldn't finish his tea. the fact that burnley were stupid enough to pay 15 million pounds is the best thing to happen to Leeds for a while. The bloke has had one good season and we look far better off playing without a target man. Cant wait to watch this cup game and watch him hide away because of some brilliant abuse from the Leeds travelling fans, who im sure will be outsinging Burnley as they outsing any team they ever go to.
