Celtic set to sign Killen as Cardiff miss out
EWING GRAHAME
CELTIC'S rebuilding programme continued last night as they moved to snap up Hibernian striker Chris Killen on a Bosman free transfer.
The New Zealand international was the Edinburgh club's top scorer with 15 goals from 24 appearances before a snapped Achilles tendon in a Scottish Cup tie at Aberdeen in January ended his season.
Cardiff City seemed certain to land his signature yesterday but Celtic manager Gordon Strachan moved in at the last minute to bolster the champions' squad.
Killen, who has 13 goals and 21 caps for the Kiwis, was signed from Oldham Athletic by former Hibs manager Tony Mowbray in January of last year.
He passed a medical in Glasgow last night and his arrival, along with the 750,000 signing of Scott McDonald from Motherwell, is likely to place a question mark over the future of Celtic strikers Kenny Miller and Maciej Zurawski.
Killen said recently he would have been content to remain at Easter Road but was offered only a one-year contract while recuperating from his injury and now rejoins former team-mates Scott Brown, Derek Riordan and Gary Caldwell at Celtic.
He had been expected to join Cardiff City and spoke on Monday in glowing terms about the Welsh club.
Killen said: "I've spoken to Cardiff and hopefully everything will be sorted this week. I still have my medical to come, but we have agreed personal terms. I want to be part of exciting times there.
"I came to Cardiff a couple of months ago and met the manager, players and staff, and liked what I heard. I saw the plans for the new stadium and the training ground, I want to be a part of those ambitious plans."
However, the player has had a change of heart and is set to remain in Scotland.

Cheers, Hard News.
Who cares mate. If he can't handle it as a professional sportsman then he shouldn't be there. This is nothing compared to other parts of the world we should have the right to criticize who we want, when we want.
on the note of it being hard to think of Hay playing Champions League i agree, its almost unbelievable now, but, look at the club; Leeds is really going somewhere
He'll get game time - especially in the SPL, where he is a proven performer. he was leading the golden boot race half way thru the season before he got injured - and that was with Hibs players around him - I'm sure he can do at least as well with the kind of service he can get at Celtic Park.
Killen will play in the Premier league eventually only a matter of time noe.

Just because he is a professional sportsman doesn't mean he can cope better than everyone else when people are far too critical of his performances. I mean, don't get me wrong, criticism is necessary in some areas, but the amount of criticism he gets is ridiculous. Hopefully, if he has read some of the forums on yellowfever, he wont lose confidence, but rather have a point to prove in the A-League.

There has been speculation that Celtic will sell Scotland international Craig Beattie, after the arrival of Killen took the number of senior strikers in the squad to seven. Killen said: "They've put one guy on the transfer list and I've been told a few more are on the way out but it's down to me, I've got to earn my place."
looks like he'll get a better chance of game time
beatie is off to the dons.. old news.
