Really surprised Ricki kept his job... will be interesting how long he lasts if he doesn't show progress this season.

How many goals did this guy get?  I only ever saw him in games against Auckland City when he did not impress at all frankly.

He got 7 and played quite wide so I suspect had as many assists .

Anyone else think the commentators get a bit of a semi when talking about your striker Tommy?

Hamilton showing some serious intent with their signings! Butler, a decent Brazilian Defender, and many more. Holding onto Semmy will mean the goals will fly in. I seriously a top 4 finish is not out of reach for them this year!

Posted on Hamilton Wanderers facebook page earlier this evening:

National League Club Coaching Announcement

Following discussions between Ricki and myself over the last few weeks, I would like to let you all know that Ricki will be stepping aside from his National League Head Coaching role effective immediately.

Due to the growth of his Football Development Manager role at our club, the growth of the Ricki Herbert Football Academy, his technical role at Cambridge FC and some outside business opportunities that have presented themselves, Ricki has felt that he needed to reduce his ISPS Handa Premiership Team coaching duties so as to be able to concentrate on his other roles as they continue to expand. This was a very tough decision for Ricki and it’s important to note that Ricki will still be involved in a coaching supporting role for our ISPS Handa Premiership Team until the end of the 2019/2020 season.

I am pleased to announce that Kale Herbert, our current National Youth League Head Coach and National League Assistant Coach, will be taking over as our Head Coach until the end of this season. Kale has worked within our National League coaching setup for the last 3 seasons and has already impressed as an up and coming young coach in the Northern Region and National Youth League ranks and it is great to be able to offer Kale the opportunity to further test himself in the country’s top domestic football competition.

Shane Knowles, current Director of Football at St Peters School in Cambridge, who has been offering his experience and support recently with our National League squads will also continue to offer these services for the remainder of the season and into our clubs winter season’s also in his new role of Technical Football Officer.

By reducing his time with our National League team, Ricki is really looking forward to be able to concentrate on the growth in our clubs Football Development Manager role.

Ricki said that “whilst it is sad to be moving away from the Head Coaches role in the National League, I’m really looking forward to continuing to support Kale, the coaching staff and players in the background. Likewise the chance to continue to expand on the opportunities and good work done this year in our junior/youth football areas is something that I can’t wait to be able to dedicate even more time too. The club has so many exciting things happening in 2020 and beyond in our junior/youth areas and I feel so privileged to be able to help shape the clubs football philosophy and programmes in those spaces and continue to work closely with the clubs coaches and junior players.”

Ricki has recently moved into a mentoring role with a large Hamilton business and similar other opportunities have presented themselves to him over the last couple of months that has helped shape his decision to step down from his coaching role at the club. These opportunities are new to Ricki but ones that he thoroughly enjoys doing, “whilst it’s not coaching on the pitch as such, it’s been great to pass on all the lessons and experiences from playing and coaching at the highest level to people in a totally unrelated industry. Football has been my life and now being able to transition from being on the field to being in a boardroom or other corporate environment, has been really enjoyable and I’m now at a stage in my life where getting the chance to work in those environments is exciting and one that I’m looking forward to doing more of along with my FDM role at the club, likewise the growth of our academy has been huge over the last 18months and I am really keen to be able to spend more time with the academy coaches and players which this decision will help me to do. RHFA and Hamilton Wanderers have developed a great working relationship and I look forward to developing that even further in the future”.

On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Ricki for his time as Head Coach of our ISPS Handa Premiership team over the last two and a half years, in which he lead us to a club high position of 6th in the 2018/2019 season, having been in the top four for a large part of that season and who introduced players such as Tommy Semmy and Derek Tieku into both our National League and Northern League teams. We all look forward to his continued work in our junior/youth ranks as our Football Development Manager and of course his support in behind the scenes at our club.

So considering Kale has been coaching the team for the last 3 years anyway, what actually changes?
Have they outed the ceremonial figurehead when they should have outed the son?

Either way, Rickster can now go back to focusing on that advisory role at the Phoenix. He'll be able to knuckle down with Terry and come up with more ideas in how to help the Phoenix be better.
