We have plenty of players who can do what Boyd does, it's probably worthwhile looking at a centre forward who is conveniently available, has done well in a professional environment of late and can put the ball in the back of the net regularly. I don't think anyone is convinced he's the answer to having an alternative to Wood but this is a lot better than picking someone who will be 36+ come 2018 or hasn't done what Kayne has has and gotten themselves into a professional side.

He's been signed from a relegated team by the league champions so if they rate him so highly, it suggests he has some ability.
Buriram seem to have a fair amount of money to splash and have some quality imports - they have other imports who have played in la Liga and the Spanish Second Div., have played for South Korea and won the AFC Champions League, a Venezuelan international etc.
Their top-scorer of the last two seasons (35 goals in 45 games), Spaniard Carmelo Gonzalez aged 31 (who recently left the club) played a lot of games in la Liga (six seasons) and the Spanish Second Div. He was a regular for Spain at all age groups (UEFA u-19 Champion 2002).
They have a young Brazilian manager Alexandre Goma (46) who has an impressive CV for his age and has coached more prestigious clubs successfully such as Internacional and Fluminense in Brazil and UAE club Al-Wahda to third place in the 2007 AFC Champions League.
Goma was at one stage assistant coach of the Korean national team.
What it comes down to is the fact New Zealand has such a small pool of players to pick from; so we can't rule anyone out without seeing them first. No matter where they're playing.

What I am basing my 'anti' on is I saw this guy play for a season and he was just another player at Waitakere. Unless something significant has happened between now and then (and judging by the level he is at, its unlikely to be honest) then while I agree with your notion that you can't overlook anyone because of the size of the pool, this guy is a non starter before a ball is kicked. He did nothing to suggest he had potential to be anything better than he was at Waitakere and really, you would expect that if a player has the potential to do better things, they probably would be a standout at ASBP. I guess a comparative person(s) is David Browne and Sam Burfoot at ACFC. Both of those players demonstrate potential to go onto things greater than the level they are at right now.

So 3rd Thai vs 4th Aussie (MVC finished 1pt behind 2nd spot on ladder), with only 1 goal difference between the two sides.
So because ACFC beat the Phoenix and CCM, and CCM has had a title and finished 3rd last year ahead of Melbourne but behind Wanderers, we can safely assume that ACFC would thrash them as they were right behind Wanderers and everyone knows they are the champions of Asia, which is kinda odd cause ACFC beat the champions of Asia and are the 5th best team in the world. That puts this Thai team somewhere near the best team in the world or the runners up in the ASBP....

Would they finish near the top of the table or near the bottom? In football, the best team does not always win or do well in one-off games. I think the fact that the AW managed not to lose a game in the 2010 World Cup clearly shows that. IMO, just because we didn't lose a game in the World Cup, didn't mean we were suddenly as good as Paraguay, Slovakia and Italy. The likelihood is, if we had to play them in a best out of 3, it would be highly unlikely we would come out on top.

Ivan Vuk offered RM $$$ to play at Kiwitea St. But they refused.
Boyd scored some goals last season and is a young player who has played at striker, though has been more successful as a wide forward or part of a strike partnership with Huysegems.
I'd back him to score more goals with this season tactics and support...
So nobody has seen this guy play since 2008 yet he is written off? Nothing to lose by having a look at him. Who 18 months ago would have picked Ryan Thomas as a rising star at PEC Zwolle based on what you saw a long time ago

Vincent hasn't played many for Buriram, wasn't in their ACL squad, but has now been loaned (with 2 teammates) to Bangkok-based Port FC.

Port have appointed ex-England player Gary Stevens as coach; Stevens began the season at TPL side Army Utd, taking them briefly to the top of the league, but was put on gardening leave, & eventually sacked after 3 straight losses
Kayne Vincent made his competitive debut for Port on Wednesday in the FA Cup.
He earnt a 1st half penalty, took it, missed, but scored off the rebound. Highlights
Port defeated BBCU 3-1.The last goal (pen) was score by fellow Buriram loanee David Rochela.
Vincent is currently ineligible to play for Port in the league, but may get another crack in the League Cup next Weds
After only a couple of appearances at Buriram, then an injury at Port, Vincent's been starting to get a few runs lately under new manager Somchai Sapperm.
(Gary Stevens was sacked before Vincent became eligible to play in the league for Port)

Vincent was relegated for the 2nd time in 2 seasons, with Port dropping to League 1 (then coming back, then going down again.. I think - but that's another season)
Have been keeping an eye out to see where he's up to, as he's not one of Port's 7 signed foreigners, and there's been no talk of a return to Buriram (who also made a few foreign signings of their own).
