Just & Stamenic are very close to being starters. And not sure Tuiloma is, either as a RB or CB.
But earlier results late last year, maybe a bit deceptive re depth in some positions not as strong as hoped. Lets judge more after the Uzbekistan game, when the squad will have had a bit more time together.
What the result does show, is that if the AWs win through OFC to the Intercontinental playoff game 13th-14th June, then a tough warmup game(s) late May/early June is absolutely paramount. By mid June, many players may not have played for a month or longer, with their club seasons finishing early-mid May. Players will need to go into that huge mid June game, match fit, match sharp from the kick off. And Hay will want at least 2 weeks with his full squad as a lead in, with lots of quality training sessions.
Pretty much. I'm not sure Bill is a starter though... He didn't offer much at RB which remains a problem. LB also not good, De Vries struggled so let's hope Cacace remains fit.
Rogerson, De Vries, Lewis, Payne, Woud... Who were already marginal for making the team, were pretty bad and did themselves no favours.
Does anyone know if this will be broadcast by NZF on YouTube as I'm working through the match and obviously game not on the box here in Europe?
Supposedly a replay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsifkMmhBSU
What time is kick off oh hive mind?
Ahh I see it’s in the other thread. 4am with a 10am replay on YouTube.

The Kiddos against all odds did my a favour and went to bed with no fuss at their bed time. Sound asleep. I'm gonna take advantage and hit the hay myself so I can be fresh faced for Hay's boys knocking in a few themselves. A bumper year for New Zealand football begins in less than 8 hours time and I for one cannot wait for all the highs and lows, moments of tension and hopefully moments of extreme jubilation. Absolutely fizzing for this one. Alarm set. Emergency can of red bull in the fridge just in case it's a groggy start. Fire up lads!
Come on you AWs
Is the game delayed? Seems to have disappeared off UK betting sites and YouTube.
These overcooked corners leaving us a bit exposed to a counter attack but I suppose it does look a bit windy. Bit of an unsettled first twenty minutes but we look good when we get some passing play going forward.
Edit: Aaaaah dog. OK this will be a good challenge for the boys. Haven't had to see how they respond from going down early in a match before.

Don't think Rogerson at ST is working atm
That wasn't great from Woud... There wasn't much angle and he didn't even seem to get close.
Would be a 100% nailed on pen if he went down but not going down makes it seem harsh. Weird one
Yuuuuuuus Woodsman. Clinical. And quick return from the boys. We are back on!
By that logic it's a good decision.
Anyway, a typically clinical pen from Wood!

Well that was short lived...
Wins a penalty and then concedes one...
Argh. FFS. At least it isn't a boring 0-0 I guess.
I like having Spoonly in commentary to offer some goal keeping insight.
We are missing Cacace on the left.

Can't say if i like this ref officiating on fouls or not
I take it our second XI not doing so well
Pretty mixed, more towards the bad though. Missing Cacace/Bell, and even Marinovic.
The camera angle is pretty far back due to the running track so it's pretty hard to make out lots of players.

Hope we come out with something different in the second half. It's not quite clicking for them. That said Jordan look very fit and well drilled. The commentary spent a lot of time talking about how it's not all happening for us in the final third but honestly I think it's our defense that isn't gelling. Jordan seem able to get into the box unchallenged and with ease, and it all gets very heart in mouthy when they are going forward with the ball.
I think we'd be better off going 4-3-3 seems like we're playing a narrow 4-1-2-1-2 atm. Bring on Champness for Rogerson and move Singh to the Right
Win or lose, I'm genuinely speechless at how out of his depth this referee is
I feel like this is the most ball I've seen Chris Wood get in the white jersey for a long long time but it's all either out wide or well outside of the box so I'm not sure that's a good thing...
The run in the first half from Just and early fast cross is exactly what Wood needs to score goals. (and the opposite of what he has and will get from Saint Maximin at Newcastle).
Lol I thought it was Spoonly in the commentary box who said that until he said it was Lewis picked up on the mic.
A very clear 'fudge me again' when the Jordan player goes down.

Woud isn't good
Stamenic the only bright spark tonight the rest all below average bar Wood
Who's our no. 1 keeper? (cos it's not Woud).
Well if you spend most the half passing back to your goalkeeper you invite something like that to happen eventually.
Awful from Payne and Woud.
Woud just isn't reliable or consistent enough. If Sail was fit I'd rate him higher.
What this game shows is we don't actually have depth. We better hope for the WC qualifiers all our key players are fit.

At the very least you would say woud is probably behind marinovic and sail. Probably won't cost us in a real game.
Let's just hope Cacace and Joe Bell are available come any big wc qualifiers this year.
Yep that's two sloppy performances from Woud in the national side in the last six months. Plus his form at Almere City wasn't the best either. When he's good he is good but we can't afford one of his disaster nights come qualifying time. Maybe worth seeing what other options we've got for the number two slot whether that be giving Searle a run soon or hopefully Oli Sail returns to fitness and with Paulsen's recent rise there's not too much drama in getting him released for March.
I'd say that's why Marinovic will remain the no 1 choice, he's just been a steady performer in the AWs shirt (no real clangers I can remember), and now has a tonne of big match international experience to fall back on.
But yeah hopefully Sail is fit by March. He deserves a chance in that OFC tourney. And again a real fudgeer Tzanev won't get jabbed. Be interesting to see how he would go. Seems in good form at the Dons.
Not a huge surprise this was a scratchy performance. A lot of guys out of season, and only a few training sessions together. Jordan on other hand apparently mostly a domestic/ME based side that had been together for a few weeks.
But yeah Hay will want to see a big improvement against Uzbekistan. Be interesting to see if he gives Searle a start. However him and Woud go way back to Sacred Heart days, so as like the Olympics I reckon he'll stick with Woud.

Surely he's behind Taznev and even Paulsen now too.
While not yet having seen the game, I'm guessing that only Wood, Singh, Tuiloma and Reid would start in our strongest XI out of the starters in today's match.
