Head-to-head is the tiebreaker and Amazulu have the negative H2H against Setif (0-2 loss and 1-0 win), so they’re out regardless of what happens on the last matchday. De Jong might even miss the exotic trip to Guinea to play Horoya, as the game is scheduled just two days after the OFC final.
Andre de Jong (Stellenbosch FC | South Africa)

Not in match day squad as AmaZulu travel to Guinea for their last CAF Champions League game, against Horoya.
Edit - A 1-1 draw. AmaZulu finish 3rd in the group. AmaZulu switch attention back to the PSL. They are struggling in 9th at the moment after being 2nd last season.
Mamelodi Sundowns (1st) are running away with the title being 14 pts clear of 2nd. Sundowns also looking good in the CAF Champions League topping their Group.
Think he may still have a year to go on his AmaZulu contract??
Though yes they could agree to release him. He does seem in & out of the team there

Edit - subbed on at 77 mins, with score 0-0. AmaZulu grab a late 93rd min winner for 1-0. They go up to 7th on PSL ladder, with 6 games left.
De Jong a 68th min sub (score 1-0).
Edit - subbed off at 68 mins in a 0-0 draw.
AmaZulu up to 7th. From memory there is a top 8 comp next season that is worth some cash, so strong incentive to finish in top 8 teams come season end.
De Jong on the bench.
Edit - comes on at 60 mins & gets the assist in a 1-0 win at 6& mins.

Kerr's counterpart and former Swallows coach Truter reacted by introducing Andre De Jong and the substitute made an immediate impact.
FYI - Benni McCarthy was sacked about a month ago as AmaZulu coach.
And elsewhere Sundowns claim the PSL title easily with 3 games to go.
Definitely not up to standard in my opinion. Depth piece who doesn't really fit our tactical setup at all

I haven't watched De Jong a lot but he grew in my opinion from his OFC appearances. Hard to know though when he's playing against OFC opponents.
I don't see him as someone who could score 10 goals plus in a season... but maybe a similar role to David Ball capable of assists or scoring the odd one himself. He could be a good squad player if he's on cheap wages.
I'm not a huge fan of De Jong, but he is better than some of the options currently being given game time. If he is cheap enough, he is definitely good enough.
2 rounds left.

And here's a video of his assist from the win over Swallows. Looks like no official TV coverage?? Nice pass, but some average defending.

Edit - subbed on at 63 mins in a 0-0 draw.
AmaZulu (6th) with one game left have a top 8 spot locked in, for next season's Top 8 comp. But disappointing season for them overall after finishing 2nd last season, and qualifying for CAF Champions League.
Think De Jong has one year left on his contract.
That draw means that AmaZulu are probably looking at a seventh placed finish with one game left to play. Definitely somewhere between 5-8. Not quite the second place of last season but having been way down near the bottom for a while there they have managed to recover pretty well. That game next week could be De Jong’s last for the club with his contract expiring after this season... or they could just re-sign him, dunno.
AmaZulu currently 6th, but Orlando Pirates who have a few games in hand could overtake them. Matters little as AmaZulu will still qualify for Top 8 comp next season.
De Jong's contract is now finished. Will he sign a new one or go elsewhere? Hay in is interview post AWs naming said De Jong was a bit unlucky, but he needs to be starting more regularly wherever he is playing.
Edit - match abandoned

This time De Jong starts.
Effectively a dead rubber for AmaZulu (6th) who will make the Top 8, no matter what. But Golden Arrows 9th, are in a battle with SuperSport for the 8th spot.
https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2022/05/24/south-africa/psl/amazulu/golden-arrows/3585020/
Again be interesting to see what happens with De Jong once the season finishes. Would he have a Euro passport through Fred? He'd go alright you'd think in one of the Scandinavian leagues - with luck in a top tier.
Edit - finishes 2-1 to Golden Arrows. De Jong off at 68 mins, with score 1-1.
Declan should be able to help him out.

Andre stays in South Africa. 2 year deal from what I've read.
I am impressed by that playing strip too. Very sharp 🔥
And hasn't been mugged at gun point yet!
Anyway hopefully gets more game time at Royal AM, than he did at AmaZulu (finished 7th in the PSL)
Royal AM were actually 3rd in the last PSL season and will play in the 2nd tier African comp - CAF Confederation Cup, this new season. So juggling African games should helps De Jong's chances of some playing time.

Starting debut for his new club. 👏
Must say, I only wear Nix and United strips, as they are my teams. But that Royal one is going to be seriously coming into consideration! 😍

Game finishes as a 3-1 victory, so Royal AM are the only team in the league to start with back-to-back victories.
But yeah here's to him having a good season.
Most Kiwis that have gone to the PSL (Brockie, Morgan, psuedo Kiwi Tade), and that's been the end of their pro careers. M Boxall an exception. Hopefully ditto De Jong.

First goal is a pretty clinical finish.
What are the salaries in SAF like compared to the A-League? He's still only 25, I wouldn't mind seeing him at the Nix one day, but not sure if that would be a step up or down in his career.
So there is money there in the upper echelons, especially for the bigger clubs.
Have seen figures bandied about of between $6000-$9000 USD per month for your average player, and I'm pretty sure from that the younger lads trying to make their way will be on significantly less, although I've seen nothing official.
So yeah, not world leading salaries (in the world of football!) but I'd say ADJ will be up there on a comfortable enough income, possibly approaching six figures (who knows?).
That said, it's all relative - my brother's South African partner reckons an income anywhere above $40,000-$50,000 equivalent in SA will give you a very decent life, and anything more than that is just a cherry on top. Mind you, having heard some incredible stories from her and workmates alike, it doesn't take too much to become a target for crime over there either, given a majority of the country earn significantly less than what has been mentioned...
Still, it's an experience in itself, and I'm sure ADJ will be making the absolute most of it.

Heard a gunshot once from hostel roof in downtown Durban, and looked down to see a white guy swearing and trying to reload his hand gun. Ran to other side of the rooftop to see a black guy sprinting on the footpath, and then across 2 lanes of traffic. Broad daylight
Same hostel a few years later, French guy returns to dorm, shaken after seeing a girl stabbed at an ATM, after refusing to hand over cash.
But it's highly likely ADJ will be living at Umhlanga Rocks, a beach enclave not far north of Durbs. Apart from football games/trainings, his whole life probably revolves around Umhlanga. Which would greatly lessen his chances of being a crime victim.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umhlanga,_KwaZulu-Natal
PS. Oh and from memory both Mikey Boxall & Brockie signed on at SuperSport for reasonable coin. Like more than they were getting at the Nix at the time. Brockie then of course got a nice pay upgrade when going to Sundowns. But will likely be a significant pay drop to your young black kid signed as a squaddie from the townships - he'd take anything for his football dream. Think unemployment rate is like over 40% with young black males.

Without detracting too far from the topic in question, I'm keenly taking all this knowledge on board knowing I'm going there in about a year or so for said brother's wedding. Thank you for the continuous good work/information Coochiee 👌
