Three games in the next seven days will surely see him get a few minutes, with Wilson injured and the new guy barely off the plane. Needs to take the opportunity.
Bruno out. Guna make it tough. You have to wonder if these absences have been talked up a bit to encourage the completion of transfers by the end of the window. Isak not in the squad. Wood has a great chance to show his stuff, but Wolves should be a decent challenge. They’re guna come Newcastle with the attitude Newcastle took to City.
Fairly dire half from Newcastle without Guimaraes to tie things together. Joelinton and Almiron look a shadow of themselves and Saint-Maximin has been fairly shackled, despite a lot of just pass it to Allan being played.
Wood is a senior player here. Needs to be a bit more proactive and maybe a little greedier with the half chances he’s getting.
Willock the villain, despite an active half missing a good chance and not closing down Neves for the goal.
Wood looking to play one touch or quick interchanges of short passes around the box, with a player coming through from the midfield finding himself isolated with all the dribblers in Maxi, Almiron and Fraser out so wide. If Joelinton, Willock or Longstaff can’t get forward, he’s all alone with 4 or even 5 defenders. He needs some luck and something else from the 433. Not sure what Howe is going to do for the rest of the week, but that first half was horrible football. Both Liverpool and Palace are very comfortable with their style of play. Could be some reality checks coming for Newcastle.

Agree with that. For goodness sake, get someone within five metres of Wood occasionally. Longstaff's passing on attack was poor, so that wasn't much help.
With Wilson still injured and Isak apparently not available yet, Wood should be starting tomorrow. Really want him to get his first goal of the PL season.
Isak apparently needed to get his work permit before he could start playing, must've got that just in time for the game. This could be a tough season for Wood if Isak continues to start and score.

I doubt Wood lasts beyond this season getting minutes for Newcastle. They'll look to sign more quality as time goes on and I don't think Wood will be part of the plan.
Wood was part of the plan to stay up. It’s quite clear he’s not a guy with speed who dribbles a lot in a 433, but that’s a lot of what he’s been tasked with. Last season he got good service from only one or two players tbh, without the understanding he had with players like Barnes, Cornet and McNeil. Let’s be honest though if Newcastle are as successful as they aim to be that means 3-4 cup competitions and the PL. They’ll want a deep squad and also, while he seems out of form now, a couple of goals might suddenly find every touch turning to gold and some faith from his manager. Hang in there Woodsie!
Like the look of this Andersen guy. When Wood was subbed on, they went long to him a lot, and he won a decent percentage of them. Problem was no one was there to pick up the ball. Howe brought Andersen on and he managed to crumb (sorry AFL term) quite well. Though Newcastle were sitting deep and nothing much came from it. But I think he’s the kind of player who could work well with Wood. Guess we’ll see next game who gets the start out of him and Isak 😁.
Gets about 4 minutes at the end. Even the commentators mentioned the lack of service Wood has received. Will give Howe food for thought how poorly his team finished and reacted in decisive moments without Bruno or St Maximin. Inexplicable VAR decision against them to disallow an own goal not withstanding. They dominated the game and every fit attacking player apart from Wood got good minutes and they couldn’t fashion a goal.
Newcastle can’t breakdown a Bournemouth team that sits deep and fights hard. Finishes 1-1. Wood on in the 89th minute which seems ridiculous considering the type of game.
Bruno will need to be back to his best with a vengeance next game. Didn’t create much which seems to be a theme and didn’t have much energy.
If Newcastle can’t put away Bournemouth with all the money on Isak and others you feel there might be a bit of pressure on Howe.
Shelvey is back in training, but Howe will be hoping for Saint-Maximin to return and stay fit.
Man can’t catch a break. Gets one game with Guimaraes playing and it’s one of Newcastle’s worst as Bruno regains match fitness against a team playing 10 behind the ball, and then Wilson is back. Hopefully he can get on and channel his AWs anger today.
Lot of fan comment on how the wingers (after Maxi) aren’t up to the job, with Almiron in an unusual position for him in the right, Fraser not a top 6 winger and Murphy just poor by any metric.
Fans are going to have to praise Almiron today. Had a good preseason tbf and involved in two of the goals, with an absolute cracker of a finish for his. Still against a 10 man Fulham, and then with an injured Mitrovic, it is a performance that needs replicating against other more confident teams.
Everyone else except Wood, probably as he was a marginal squad inclusion after his knock with the AWs, gets a run out and the game becomes trying to get Almiron a hatty. Currently 4-0 and a man down Fulham. As I type 4-1, so that’s my FF screwed to boot.(edit: Schaar subbed with a clean sheet, so phew!)
Wood needs a bit of luck or an inclusion in a game going their way. A goal would get him going imo. He seems to have missed a lot of the beat ups on weaker teams!
Wood on the bench again. Think he’s got a bit of trouble here. All the other players that can play CF can also play wider in a front 3 and are mobile: Wilson, Saint-Maximin, Isak, Joelinton. I don’t think he’s plan A, B and maybe even C. Murphy’s got a goal today and pressed and combined well with Wilson to do it. Almiron had a good game last week. I don’t think Wood is really in Howe’s plans or playing style, as he was last season. To accommodate him in this system he’d have to play either Isak or Wilson wider and drop Almiron. Very unlikely.
Currently 2-0 to Newcastle at the end of the first half.
Wood to get some minutes at 84 minutes and 4-1 as Howe empties the bench to protect his starting team. Hope he can get something here! Edit: and Pinnock ogs rather than let Wood get the final touch! Can’t catch a break.
The Woodsman to get a little over 10 minutes to make fans of Manchester Red a bit more depressed. It’s been a poor game for both teams, Newcastle in their controversial away strip, Manchester with too many poor footballers starting…
He would b3 a good signing for a Prem side fighting to stay up or a Championship side chasing promotionElemenop
Loads of speculation that he will be able to leave in Jan.
Would be immense at West Brom, we’re crying out for a classic number 9 to convert our chances, a Wood return would be perfect. Sitting at 20th in the Champ thanks to the now unemployed Steve Bruce might not be particularly attractive for the Woodsman though.
His EPL scoring record from 2017 to 2021 would make going to the Championship a massive step down IMO, especially since picking who is going to get promoted from that division is so tough at the moment. He'd be much better off going to an EPL club that doesn't look like it will get dragged into a relegation scrap - Bournemouth or a return to Brighton maybe.
He could also do well going to a top half club in one of the other top five leagues, especially one playing European football - somewhere like Frankfurt or Stade Rennais.
